The new Quote Loader
TIK has improved the security on the use of unsigned extensions. This is in build 1899 which is still in preview mode. Once it is released for general use you will see a warning message on the summary screen if you are using unverified extensions. This included all of my extensions. I have worked with TIK to get my extensions verified which includes Quote Loader. These are now available on my repository in https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/.
To verify an extension I have had to make my source code available to TIK. The author of the back end of Quote Loader (hleofxquotes) was not prepared to do this and thus I have redesigned Quote Loader to be standalone. I would like to thank hleofxquotes for his work and help in making Quote Loader an extension of choice.
I have asked TIK to add Quote Loader to the list of available extensions. This is being considered.
DerekKent23 has written/updated a PDF on how to install and set up Quote Loader. This is accompanied by a couple of videos. These assume Quote Loader has been added to the list of available extensions. Before that list is updated please download the file securityquoteload.mxt from my repository (https://bitbucket.org/mikerb/moneydance-2019/downloads/) and add it using the MD Extensions/Manage Extensions/Add from File. The updated PDF will be available shortly.

You can remove QL 3047 and reinstall from EXTENSION – MANAGE EXTENSIONS as the signed version of QL 3047 has been released. Don’t forget to restart Moneydance.
You can turn off Debug.

Had a quick look at the errlog.txt and there appears to be no evidence that Quote Loader was run (GET PRICES) between opening and closing Moneydance.
Can you try again with Debug set to Detailed

Thanks, that was a valid errlog.txt file. I have altered Mike and sent him a copy of my error.txt file where a price is returned for comparison.
Mike thinks it may be a few days before I can look at it.

I have not found the reason but Yahoo is returning a zero price, so it does not get updated. Please could you do the following:
Select TD-PFL.TO and set the source to Yahoo HD. (Do not click on Save Parameters as this will override your normal settings)
Click on 'Get Prices'
Close QL and then MD
Post the errlog.txt as before

Please disregard Post 246 above where the ticker had been set to TD.PF.L for FT. I forgot to reset the ticker to TD-PFL for YahooHD. I have corrected this and attach the new errlog.txt file. Interestingly enough ... The update worked this time. See attachment #2.

In your last post it looks like all the other securities are set Source Do not load. Can’t you repeat Mikes steps exactly as you did but with all the other securities source set as you normally would. So instead of only the one price being returned QL is trying to return all your price as it would normally attempt to do.

Okay, here is the latest attempt using QL3048 with all of my usual securities selected for price updates. This time TD-PFL on the TSX using YahooHD as the data source does not update correctly. See screen shot. I attach the errlog.txt file compiled immediately after completing the Get Prices request. Hope this helps.

This is an interesting one, if I run QL with ticker TD-PFL.TO it works. If you run it with only that ticker it works. If you run it with all of your other securities it fails. I need to put more trace items in the code to see what is happening. I know it is telling me it has found a price but then it sends 0.00 back to update MD which QL ignores. I have recreated the error and am investigating. It returns an empty history price table when it is executed with other securities, when run on its own it works.

I have made an interesting observation which may or may not help in your sleuthing about the Toronto-Dominion PFD Series 22 share price update problem. When I run Quote Loader 3048 for all of my securities using the settings TD-PFL and Yahoo, the update works correctly for all securities including TD-PFL. See screen shot #1. However, if I change Yahoo to Yahoo HD and repeat the process, the update for TD-PFL fails but still works correctly for my other securities. See Screen Shot #2. The same thing happens using TD.PF.L with FT or FT HD. Hope this helps narrow down the problem.
The good news is that Quote Loader 3048 updates work correctly with TD-PFL and Yahoo or with TD.PF.L and FT.

I'm a fellow user.
It is not that unusual for a security to return a price with Yahoo yet fail on Yahoo HD.
It was noted some years ago that Yahoo do not always maintain the historical data for some securities but will hold the latest price. Why they do this who knows.

FT HD only supports historical data for Funds, not Stocks, so no surprise TD.PF.L fails to return a price from FT HD.
On the other hand, Yahoo HD should work even when for some strange reason Toronto-Dominion PFD Series 22 seems to be an exception in that Yahoo HD isn’t actually listing historical data, it just lists one entry in the historical data list, the last trading day. When I first tested, I thought it was just a hiccup on Yahoo’s part and the historical data list would return, but it’s been some time now and there is still only one entry in the historical data table instead of the normal one years’ worth. So there seems nothing to be gained in using Yahoo HD over Yahoo. Still, none of this explains why in some situations why Yahoo HD does not return at least one Price. At one point I thought it may be something to do with the date format used for the one entry as its different from normal, but I ruled that out as Yahoo HD does return a price in some situations. Let’s see what Mike comes up with.

The actual issue is that TD-PFL only has one entry on historical data,
the page returned by Yahoo HD is a different structure than if it had 2
entries. I need to disect the source from Yahoo HD to work out what is
happening and how to overcome.

I have investigated and get inconsistent results from Yahoo, some times it works, sometimes it doesn't, so it is unlikely I can correct this. I suggest you change the source to Yahoo. The history only has one entry so it should have a large effect.

Quote Loader is a third-party extension that has been reviewed and signed by Infinite Kind (Moneydance).
For Moneydance 2019 to 2022 latest Quote Loader build is 3048.
UPDATE
• Fix issue that prevented Quote Loader from obtaining FT prices in some geographical regions due the change to Java 17 used by resent builds of Moneydance.
As a signed extension Quote Loader can be found under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS.
Simply click EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS – AVAILABLE tab, find Quote Loader and click install or update.
Once installed re-start Moneydance - installation complete.
For users of Quote Loader builds lower than 3021. REMOVE (uninstall) all Extensions under EXTENSIONS – MB EXTENSION INSTALLER, lastly removing (uninstalling) MB EXTENSION INSTALLER itself by using the REMOVE buttons. The background folder “.rhumba” is redundant, expert user can if they so wish delete the “.rhumba” folder with Moneydance closed. On installing the latest Quote Loader, a new replacement folder “.qlmeta” is created. MB Extension Installer is no longer required to install Quote Loader.
Quote Loader was developed and is supported by Mike Bray.

The source Yahoo and Yahoo HD have changed the structure of there data which is making these sources unavailable to Quote Loader. FT and FT HD still work.
Mike the developer of QL is looking at this change, but it may take some time to sort out.
Quotes and Exchange Rates extension has the same problem.

Until a fix is implemented, as a workaround...
If you create a Portfolio at Yahoo Finance of your holdings, you can export a CSV file of quotes.
You can then use Mike's 'Security History Loader' to import the quotes into Moneydance.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I was able to create a csv file of security price quotes for multiple securities from the Yahoo Finance Canada website. However, I haven’t been able to find a way to import the data from the file into MoneyDance for multiple securities. Any suggestions?

The first thing I would try is changing the Quote Loader source to FT.
Any securities that don’t return data may need a Exch Mod selected or in extreme cases a different ticker. Any securities you have problem using with FT post ticker, the full security name and the last price you have and your base currency, I may be able to help.
As Kevin N posted Mike has another extension that can import security data from a Yahoo CSV file into Moneydance called Security History Loader. It’s years since I have needed to use that but if you cant get FT working I could revisit it.

Hi Derek,
After changing the data source to FT in Quote Loader, there were several securities that did not return data. In almost all cases, they were securites with a hyphen in the ticker name. For example, REITs. After updating the security ticker so that it was compatible with FT, the update worked perfectly for 2022/12/16. Unfortunately, the updated prices did not include the historical data since the last update performed 1 week earlier but this is a relatively minor issue in the overall scheme of things. :wink:

The way it normally works is that I fix the problem and make it available to a small group of users to test. Once tested I submit the change to TIK for verification and uploading. Derek Kent then puts out a message to these forums notifying everyone of the change. As @dwg said you can subscribe to these forum and you will get an email for each post to the forum.

Watching this as I just discovered this issue. Since I have only funds switching to FT works except for one fund, see attached. I don't know if this will help with troubleshooting or if there is a setting involved (could not find anything related). For some reason QL is moving the decimal one place, but notice in the Trade Currency column an exchange for GBX for some reason. This is the second run, after correcting CHI on the first run from $1.09 to $10.97 then running it again.
