When I duplicate a bank transaction everything is duplicated however if I duplicate a stock transaction such as dividends or a Mis. exp in the duplicate that is made the amount of the dividend or Mis Exp is missing is their a reason for this ? Is this a bug ? Dividends for a stock can go long periods of time without changing so the entering of dividends would be really quick and easy.

FWIW the amount is copied in MD2012 & MD2014 but this change appears to be a feature of MD2015.

    Tom,

That is a bad move, by all means use the first three letters of the Action. I cannot and do not use the category "Dividend".

Why? the answer is simple. In Australia Dividend amounts are further categorized thus I have categories:

    1. Dividend - Franked
    2. Dividend - Unfranked
    3. Dividend - Franking credit

So using such an arbitrary thing as the category breaks it.

I have run into a similar problem in the QIF importer where it seems that someone decided that if the Action "Div" was present then the category should be Dividend even if there is a category stated in the transaction it is ignored. This is not a clever idea.

The developers should not be making such assumptions.

    Hello!

This is a bug but it's not caused by any characters in the action field. It is simply that the internal tag (not the action field) that Moneydance uses to identify which part of a transaction is which in investment transactions is lost in the duplicate.

This has been fixed for the next preview build, which will likely be 1189. I'm very sorry for this issue!

    WOW. A real bug.

Here is a bug of mine. When I open a investment account it asks for bank and phone and every investment has the fields Brokerage and Phone. Why can't you just collect the information once and have it populate into an account info screen that would be available by clicking on a button called ( Account Info) available at the top of every investment account on the blue bar.  Now you you could collect brokerage name, address, phone number and have a phone directory with Name, Title/Position,  Phone for 6 people. I have 3 contacts at my brokerage. Then you could eliminate the Brokerage and Phone fields that is available for every stock, mutual fund, CD, bond and option and you need an edit screen

Benifits are centralized data easier to access and more useful. Elimination of hundreds of fields doing nothing. Going back 15 years that is hundreds of investments all with brokerage and phone which is useless.

Not everyone has their investments with one brokerage firm or investment house, nor has their bank accounts with just one bank.

I use two banks and at one stage had approx 10 mutual funds all at different organisations.

Dag your a greatly predictable. I thought that was a given factor. A factor that one could allow for and program for.

So we start with Start a new bank/brokerage and that opens a pop up template where you fill in banking information and contacts. With a choice at the bottom leave this blank and proceed. Also an enter button.

Now when you open a bank or brokerage account you can selected your bank or brokerage information with the option of leaving it blank.

I don't understand the need for brokerage name and phone for every
    investment within a brokerage account.

Excuses for doing nothing are far easier than finding a solution to fix a problem or making a change to correct something that doesn't make sense.

    Sean,

There is one thing being copied in duplicating a transaction that I believe should not be.

I find that it copies a transactions cleared status, so for example on a DivXfr.

I believe that the cleared status should be set back to uncleared, it would be rare that you would be duplicating a transaction in response to reconciling a statement but likely that it would be a transaction occurring at around the time you are making the entry.

As a user of Moneydance I agree with your thinking on duplicate transactions not carying across their cleared or reconciled statuz
