I run two sets of accounts in Moneydance. In the first set of accounts under my investments, the individual security chart shows the very useful symbol on the chart showing when I bought or sold a security. However, in the second set of accounts, the charts for each individual security does NOT show the transaction symbol for when I bought or sold a security. I have searched around to try and work out why as well as the public discussions but have failed to rectify it.

Peter Linleytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492344102021-06-07T18:06:30Z2021-06-07T18:06:30ZTransaction symbol not showing in security chart in investments

Here's my read...:
- just be a buy/sell (or, b/s_xfr, or div reinvest) - then if the txn has zero shares or zero price then it gets ignored - it then does some maths to get the buy/sell price. Thus a price of zero or splits of zero will go wrong..

Questions..
- Does this security have price data? volume data?

Perhaps post a list of the txns in a security where the markers are not visible..?

Thanks for responding to my query and apologies for the delayed response. I now realise the source of the problem and not sure how you get around it but possibly I’m missing something.

All of my accounts are reflected in South African Rand in Moneydance. The transactions in question are dollar and sterling based transactions and then converted into rands. The historical price of the security is shown in the foreign currency but the initial transaction I have recorded is in Rands. If I don’t record the original transaction in rands the base doesn’t make sense.

Would appreciate your insight into anything I may be doing incorrectly.

Thanks and regards

Sorry I have taken so long to respond to you on this. It would be great if
we could work this out…

I will try and illustrate:
Assume the account base is South African Rands
The investment is MSCI World ETF listed in the UK so the currency on that
is Sterling and so when I capture the price I do so in UK sterling which
then auto converts to SA Rands in my Moneydance account.
The trouble I am having:

If I capture the purchase in Sterling, the percentage performance is
ridiculous because it is comparing my sterling book value with the current
MV in rands

So my work around was to capture the purchase in Rands - performance
problem then resolved as comparing BV in rands with MV which auto converts
from the Sterling current price into Rands

But the problem then is that I can’t see graphically where I traded the
share as the security price is captured in Sterling.

Hope screenshots below help illustrate this. I have used test numbers to
show this.

You will see on the ALL World ETF I have used the Sterling price - the
performance comparing BV and MV circles in Blue
For the EM ETF I have captured the Sterling converted into Rands to capture
the purchase price

But for the EM ETF I cannot see the points graphically where i Traded the
security

Whereas if I capture the price in Sterling I obviously can do because the
security is loaded through quote loaded in the security currency which is
sterling

Thanks for your interest.

Regards

It worked for me...

Can you create a new dataset (File/New), select the right base currency, and then create an investment account, security, and transactions. Just enough to demonstrate the problem.. Then file/export backup that dataset and post it here... The we can see for ourselves? Of course, not containing personal Info, as that is not needed...
