As Investment account balances are seen in the side bar I think you will need to elaborate on what you are seeing perhaps posting some screen shots to highlight the issue.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T01:15:52Z2021-08-15T01:15:57ZInvestment Balances

Hi dwg

Thanks for getting back to me.

I don't know how to do screen shots (and really don't want to do that
with my accounts).
It's just that the amounts in the sidebar are not the same as the actual balance.

One of my investment accounts shows $36,390.10, when it's actually
$54,535.10. Another one shows $24,682.40, when it's actually $50,877.36.

Why does it do that?

JA Htag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T01:31:40Z2021-08-15T01:31:40ZInvestment Balances

Without seeing the data it is difficult to put a finger on the exact problem, so any advise will be general.

The balance in the side bar is generally set to be the current balance, so for example it does not show future transactions, this is a common reason for differences.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T01:38:42Z2021-08-15T01:38:45ZInvestment Balances

Hi Again -

As I mentioned below, the balances that show in the side bar are not
my current balances. I don't have any idea where those numbers come from!

The balances in the sidebar are accurate for all my other accounts -
just not my investment accounts.

JA Htag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T08:44:05Z2021-08-15T08:44:05ZInvestment Balances

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi

Following on from DWG’s comments as your issues is with Investment Accounts the reason could be that the Current Price and Last Dated Price for one or more security under TOOLS – SECURITIES are not the same value. Take a look and edit the values that look incorrect so the two entries are the same.
The side bar, Summary page, and investment accounts portfolio view balances are based on the Current Security Price whereas balances in reports such as Net worth are based on Dated Prices.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T17:17:40Z2021-08-15T17:17:41ZInvestment Balances

Hi derekkent23 -

Thanks for your reply.

I don't usually hold any securities open so I would think that the
balance shown on the summary page would be the final balance that shows
in the account because I'm not holding any stocks open.

I don't know where those numbers come from, but all 3 of my trading
accounts have incorrect balances showing.

JA Htag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T18:56:55Z2021-08-15T18:56:55ZInvestment Balances

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi

Did you check the Current Price and Last Dated Price for each of the securities you hold under TOOLS – SECURITIES are the same?

All I can say is that I haven’t had this type of issue in all the years I have been using Moneydance back to 2015 provided the possible problem laid out by DWG and myself have been checked.

Not sure what you mean by “I don't usually hold any securities open”?

If you still have a problem then without further information it’s not possible to see were the issue is.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T19:38:14Z2021-08-15T19:38:14ZInvestment Balances

I agree with Derek, without seeing your screens impossible to help further.

Could you create a dummy investment account. Add a security. Create several dummy txns and then send screenshots of that register, the portfolio screen, and the incorrect balances showing on the Home Screen for that account?

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T20:39:25Z2021-08-15T20:39:25ZInvestment Balances

Thanks for getting back to me.

If I open/view the trading accounts the cash balances are correct. Only
in the sidebar they are all screwed up.
Don't worry about it. I know they're all screwed up. I'll just ignore
them! I thought it would be something that would be easy to fix.

JA Htag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T21:12:21Z2021-08-15T21:12:21ZInvestment Balances

Hi JA H,

Something easy that you can check is to make sure that the left sidebar is set to display the 'Current Balance' as opposed to the 'Cleared Balance'.

The 'Cleared Balance' will be different than the 'Current Balance' if you have 'uncleared' transactions in the investment account register.

To check or change the sidebar setting go to File > Preferences.
In the resulting form on the 'General' tab, look to the 'Side Bar Balance Type' setting.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just checked the settings for the sidebar
and it's already set for 'Current Balance'.
I've got 3 active investment accounts and none of them have the correct
'Current Balance' in the sidebar. I'm stumped!

JA Htag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/493402182021-08-15T21:39:47Z2021-08-15T21:39:47ZInvestment Balances

Hello,

I agree with the other users on this thread that we're not aware of any current issues with the balance display for investment accounts in the sidebar.

Did you try to create a dummy account as Stuart outlined in the previous post, and you are still seeing the issue? If so, it would be really helpful to see screenshots of that, which shouldn't reveal any personal information. If you're not sure how to take a screenshot, please see http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/

I'm just going to give up on it. I know what they should be so I'll just
ignore them in the sidebar. I just find it a bit annoying.

Thanks anyway!

JA H
