How to create a simple record of shares held

Can someone please help me and explain how to correctly create a record of shares we hold and update the value of them.

    I'm a fellow user.

    Moneydance follows accounting principles, and as such it is fairly transaction centric, hence you need to create transactions that set up your holdings.

    I would suggest you start by looking at the investment section of the Knowledge Base:

    For updating prices you have a number of options, including various options for manually entering prices as well as automatic downloads, the following article gives a starting point for these:

    For other options there is a security price entry extension which is good if you need to manually enter prices regularly and for a more capable automatic download option the Quote Loader extension.

    Just to add on obtaining Security prices try the extension Quote Loader under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION
