How do I associate a checking account with an investment account. Each month when I make a purchase, MD on its own creates a transfer transaction in the security and associates it with a checking account, also on its own.. but it's the wrong account. When I change the confirmed transfer to the right account, on the next download it re-creates the erroneous account transfer. There is no option to merge, like in regular bank accounts. Help.

wa1ouitag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550097422022-10-26T12:29:14Z2022-10-26T12:29:14ZProblems with Direct Connect investment purchases

From a user, not an admin--

I don't believe it is possible to associate a checking account with an investment account unless you're talking about a cash management account as part of a brokerage. Otherwise, yes MD will pick whatever checking acct you have indicated is the default account.

I always enter the the transfer on the "to" side first. Then when MD downloads it just delete, rather than change, that entry. You may have to do this repeatedly before it stops downloading the same transaction.

For whatever reason, MD does a poor job in the investment arena. (No option to merge, cumbersome method for splits, etc.) Repeated requests for improvement in this area have so far been ignored.

rivernuttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550097422022-10-26T12:31:46Z2022-10-26T12:31:46ZProblems with Direct Connect investment purchases

@rivernut Thanks, but how do I indicate a default checking account, and how long and why does it stop downloading a transaction? It had done that in the past, but now has gotten more stubborn and keeps trying. I appreciate the reply.

wa1ouitag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550097422022-10-26T12:58:49Z2022-10-26T12:58:49ZProblems with Direct Connect investment purchases

The default account is the first one under Bank (far left section.) If you want a different account as your default just put the number 1 in front of its name. This will become the default account for everything.

How many times you have to download before MD gives up depends on the institution.

Hey MD programmers: WE NEED A MERGE FUNCTION HERE!!!!

rivernuttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550097422022-10-26T13:04:44Z2022-10-26T13:04:44ZProblems with Direct Connect investment purchases

The default account is the first one under Bank (far left section.)

That's just plain stupid. Placement should have nothing to do with default. Default should be a choice. What if I had several accounts feeding investments? I try to change the account in the transaction, but it still downloads new each time.

WE NEED A CHOOSABLE DEFAULT ACCOUNT FOR EACH INVESTMENT!

(rivernut I like your style :)

wa1ouitag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/550097422022-10-26T13:36:11Z2022-10-26T13:36:11ZProblems with Direct Connect investment purchases

"What if I had several accounts feeding investments?"

That's exactly why I always input the transaction on the "going to" side, usually a checking account. The investment account will keep that as entered. The downloaded one I just delete until it stays away.

Feel free to add a feature request ticket. Eventually they'll listen.

rivernut
