File load error in Load Security Transactions

Hi @mikebray
After years of manually inputting data from HL I have just discovered this and will save me hours, except I get the attached error when I try to load the file. It's a download from HL, with the extra rows removed, so just the header row and data. I have checked in bbedit that its actually comma separated and all looks good, but there seems to be some other issue. I have also tried changing the encoding but no luck there either.

   Hmm. I’m sceptical that you have a valid csv that can be used for investment accounts. I also use HL and I don’t know of any download that provides all the necessary information. And MD cannot import csv into investment accounts. Sorry.

   A qif file could work if you could get all the relevant data into it.

   Ignore me. I think you are referring to Mike Bray’s extension. I look forward to seeing how you get on.

   FYI. I recently set about creating my own extn, but gave up in making a generic one as a lot of data was missing from HL extracts.

   Yes, he says its specifically created for HL, and mentions that whilst it doesn't have buy sell flags so might not do security transactions, it will import the much more frequent lines for loyalty bonuses, divs, mgmt fees etc that are actually harder to reconcile.

   Actually, it might be because I have uninstalled java. Will reinstall and confirm.

   Moneydance has its own bundled version of Java included.

   Thanks, and yes intalling java didn't help either. I am on Ventura, and see some comments about Java swing having issues on some Mac versions?

   Yes. Unfortunately I need multi accounts, multi client, and all the buy/sell stuff etc.

   If you look in help/console after this error, is there an error stack dump..? If so, post that here... and/or upload an example file here...

   No stack dump.
   This is a most basic file I am testing with created in Bbedit, and same error as the HL files.

    I seem to vaguely remember, but I could well be wrong, that Mike's extension handles income and expense types of transactions it did not handle Buy and Sells.

    Correct.. the fact I entered buy shouldn't matter when I load the file, as you set what that field means later.
