I am fairly new to Moneydance and have my checking and Credit Union accounts setup and working great, in Moneydance. I am a former Quicken User and I think that maybe part of the problem.
My next step is to setup my Putnam Investment Account and was doing OK, until I tried to enter the 01/25 and 03/08/2023 transactions (see attached). I do not understand how to enter them in My Register. I have made several attempts to get the share balance and cash to balance, but I don't how to get to that point? Up to this point the Cap Value Fund is reconciled with my statement.
Looking forward to resolve this issue.

I'm a fellow user.
In some cases knowing Quicken is a help in others it is a hindrance. With investments it is probably more a hindrance since some things that software does is a bit questionable.
I'll be brief on a way to approach it and you can come back for more specifics if you needed them.
1. You need to create an investment account, this typically refers to the Investment house or Broker.
2. You need to create the specific security, so is is the actual investment fund in your case
3. You then assign/associate the investment with the account.
Why not automatic, well you could have many investment accounts and many securities, there is no point in having a security associated with an investment it is not used in and having the structure there that such an association creates.
4. You then need to set up the "opening balance". Use the Account --> Edit Account screen to set up the amount.
5. Enter a buy transaction on the Opening balance day with the details from your statement, that consumes the amount entered above and gives your initial holdings.
As this is a fund we do not really need to worry about history like we would for directly owned shares.
6. Your fee is charged through a sale of units in the fund, not at all unusual when there is no cash account hence you enter this as a SellXfr with the Money going to a fee category (you may need to set one up if there is something not already suitable enter the fee category in the transfer field
7. Your Dividend reinvestment is simple just enter it as a DivReinvest, details as per the Statement and choose a suitable category.

Thanks it worked for me. You need to be on staff, step by step was really easy to follow.
My next challenge is to be able to Download, Bank, Credit Union, credit cards and investment transactions into Moneydance.
Thanks again for your help.

Hi Chuck,
Currently, Moneydance supports automatic downloads using Direct Connect or Moneydance +. If your financial institution/s support the OFX method, you could use this service, alternatively as you own a license for Moneydance 2022/2023 you could consider subscribing to Moneydance +.
You may want to download and install the latest version (if you haven't already). Moneydance 2023.1 (5006) is available for downloading from this page.
Without Direct Connect and Moneydance +, you are still able to easily import your data into the program using the OFX or QFX file format, if either of these are available from your bank's website. If not, you can use the QIF file format. Please find the steps for manually importing your data in this article.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

TIK could not afford me :) I'm also retired.
Within the user base, and especially those that field questions on the forums, you have people with a wide range of experience, computer experts, programmers, those with financial qualifications, many people with years of experience in using financial software.
It is the variety of experience you are unlikely to get in a support person. This is one of the things that make the forums valuable.
