TD Ameritrade transferred to Charles Schwab

As of today, my TD Ameritrade accounts transferred to Charles Schwab. I set up a new Schwab account in MD, expecting the TDA account would show the securities transferred out and then the download of Schwab would show them coming into that account. However, the TDA account is gone and no transfer activity downloaded so I'm at a loss for how to make this transition in MD. I haven't tried connecting to Schwab in MD yet because I don't know what to do at this point. HELP!

I don't think there is a "standard" way to make all this happen.... yet. MD users are trying to figure it out.

    1) Setting up your new Schwab account is good.
    2) Expecting the TDA account to automatically download is not quite right. You have to connect the "Schwab/TDA" account to the new Schwab account
    3) Actually renaming the TDA account in MD to BE the new Schwab account is good, as it maintains your history.
    4) So, my thought is - rename your TDA account to be a Schwab account (probably with new numbers as well). Go to Schwab in MD+ and connect to the account. Once connected, point the account to the account within Moneydance.

    Report back.

I renamed the account and updated the information. Then I disconnected the TDA connection in MD+ and connected the to the Schwab account through PLAID. I went back into MD+, did a Refresh, and the Schwab account is there, but when I select the dropdown to link the MD Schwab account to the connected online account, the renamed account is not in the list.

I also need to make sure, once I get them linked, that it will not download all transactions because when I looked online, the entire account history came over to Schwab so I need to be able to set the download to only download begin date to 9/5/23.

I just noticed that the renamed account in the sidebar and Summary view show a balance of 0 for that account even though when I click on the account in the sidebar, the Register and Portfolio View show the account transactions and balances correctly.

I figured out why the account was showing 0. Somehow, the account was changed to inactive. It is showing correctly now, and I was able to link it to the online Schwab account in MD+. However, I need to make sure the download will only download the most recent transactions (that have not been downloaded yet) since the entire history was transferred from TDA to Schwab, and that history already exists in the renamed MD account. Since the account was just renamed, will the first download from the newly linked Schwab account just pick up from where the last TDA download left off?

I believe Moneydance might download all the history following the first download.

So, you could create a manual backup and save it to your desktop before performing the download (in case you need to revert to it).

Then you could try the following:

    1) Select the option 'Automatically Merge Downloaded Transactions'
When enabled it performs two functions automatically as transactions are imported or downloaded.

    A) As each transaction is imported if the download transaction is a sufficiently close match to a transaction that already exists in the register (probably a manually entered transaction) the two would be merged together. The purpose being to remove duplicates on download. Transactions need to have exactly the same amount to be considered a merge eligible match.

    B) As each transaction is imported if the download transaction has a sufficiently close description/payee to one of the transactions already in the register the incoming transaction is considered a "Repeat payee". In such a case the category and description of the incoming transaction are set to equal those of the transaction it matched to.

    2) Set the option "Only match downloaded transactions when they are at most 'N' days apart" to N, as outlined here.
When set to 'default', Moneydance will match older transactions within 90 days and future transactions within 14 days - but obviously the transactions downloaded may go up to when you've opened your account.

    3) Also, you could navigate to "Extensions->Manage Extensions" and install the "Toolbox" v1059.

    • Launch "Toolbox"

    • Navigate to Menu: Online Banking (OFX) Tools In the resulting window, under "Update Functions" you should select:

"Delete ALL cached OnlineTxnList Record/Txns (delete_intermediate_downloaded_transaction_chaches.py)".

Finally choose "Proceed" to select the relevant account and restart Moneydance.

Then you could select the Reset Sync Date entry, Moneydance will prompt you upon the next download to select how far back in time you'd like it to request transactions. In this way you would re-enable this function which usually works after the first download takes place.

    Hi Maddy,

Everything in the MD Schwab account is correct, but I need to reset the download sync date for that account because it keeps re-downloading the initial 9/5/23 internal cash and security transfers from TDA to Schwab that I deleted. Those transaction are doubling the cash and shares in the account since those values were already in the account that I renamed. I am assuming that is what your last step is suppose to allow me to do, but I can’t find a Reset Sync Date. Where is that option?

After performing the first download, you should restart Moneydance. Hit 'Refresh' and as soon as there are transactions to be downloaded then the 'Reset Sync Date entry' should show on the top right corner of your Set up Moneydance +->Accounts window.
