Why are all the bond maturing discussions closed and have no comments? I found one that pointing to the investment knowledge base but those are no help as they do not go into any detail on how to track a bond or options for when it matures.

All threads are closed after 3 months of no activity.

As to no comments, that shows "no activity".

As to WHY there are no comments, I have no idea.

I do not think there is a whole lot to say about bonds. They are issued at a face value that is repaid or reinvested at maturity, they pay interest.

You could use an Investment account or an Asset account to track them, whichever suits you best, there is no right or wrong way.

So when setting up the bond as as investment (security) what are the Face value, maturity date and APR fields used for (see screen capture)? These fields are filled in the the appropriate values but yet it seems like Moneydance dose nothing with them?

Can you elaborate on how you would exactly enter and track a bond in MD, what transactions you would enter (buying, any coupons, and at maturity, with final interest) for each? From both the Investment account side or as an Asset?

No matter how I enter the transactions nothing seems right, balance, cost, or value never look correct.

    Thanks in advance

I'm also puzzled about how to properly record bonds and their returns. There's some discussion about security vs asset, and I get that either way may work, but I searched and cannot find any information on the mechanics of recording them, the proper recording of income, and the proper display of holdings.

If anyone has this figured out, I'd love to see some steps and examples of how to record these. I've got some ideas about the security method but my method winds up generating capital gains instead of interest income which causes issues at tax time.

It sounds like you have set them up as investment accounts.

For interest you can either record the interest as a DIv action or a MisInc action.

Take no notice about what the action names indicate, in Moneydance their purpose is to describe how the transaction is processed and both of these action process the transaction in the same way . What the action is, is dependent on the category you use for the transaction, in other program the action also forces the category.
