Once you have an Investment account you need to create
securities and add them to the account. You can then use those
securities in the Investment transactions.

You can add securities by either clicking the 'securities' tab,
or by selecting the 'Actions' button at the top right of the
Investment register. Then you want to enter 'buy' transactions
using these securities, to enter your initial holdings. After this
you want to edit the account (within Account --> Edit) to add an
initial balance to reconcile your cash balance. You can read more
in
this article about how to enter your current holdings.

You can see a list of investment related articles here. And please

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you

Thanks for input re an investment account.

I am trying to set up an a/c for a shareholding in a company. I
tried for a long time to record the sale of BG shares for Shell
shares and cash but failed to get the outcome I wanted. I have now
recorded the BG sale as a cash sale and so need to set up a Shell
ShareSecurity a/c to enter the purchase of the Shell shares and
leave the balance of my cash in the bank as the cash paid part of
the sale.

I don’t need an Investment a/c in which to include
Securities. I need a stand alone Security a/c (for this
shareholding) to sit alongside others I imported from Quicken. Your
assistance would be appreciated.

Regards

accounts. Is this what you mean?

This is not how they are held in MD. Securities are meant to be
part of an investment account. It is true that the way Quicken
holds securities they do migrate over as separate accounts. But
they are meant to be collected and held in an investment
account.

If I am misunderstanding what you are asking for please let me
know.

cannot stand alone as a security.

Thanks for your input.
