I'm new to this software. Only Savings, Checking and Personal Finances types of accounts appear . How/where do I download my investment data?

Use Account/New Account/Investment to create your first one, and that category will appear along with the new account created.

I'd also suggest a browse of the Moneydance Knowledge Base articles on Investment accounts
