Interesting. Can you tell us what OS your computer has, what are you syncing with and what version/build of Moneydance are you running. See under HELP – ABOUT MONEYDANCE e.g. 2017.7(1665)

Thanks

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/448012212018-02-27T13:43:12Z2018-02-27T13:43:12ZHow long should initial syncing takes

My OS is macOS High Sierra. Not sure what is meant by “version” and “build.” What appears in “About Moneydance” is 2017.6.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the explanation has to do with the fact that I initiated synchronization on my phone and only later followed through on my notebook. I am a little fuzzy about what I do. What I do remember: I created an “encryption passphrase.” I entered. Code was displayed on my notebook. I copied it and entered it. I think in a small window open for the purpose on the notebook. Initial synchronization started on the phone. I did nothing further on the notebook. After I posted this message I entered the “encryption passphrase” on the notebook.

The sequence of steps that needed to be taken to initiate synchronization was not clear to me from the documentation in the knowledge base.

Eric Weirtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/448012212018-02-27T14:12:22Z2018-02-27T14:12:22ZHow long should initial syncing takes

I am not support staff, just a user.

After the 2017.6 you should see a number in brackets, that the build. The latest released build is 1656 to give 2017.6(1656). It a good idea to run the latest build to take advantage of bug fixes. Some have been related to syncing. Not sure how many builds releases there has been since 2017.6 was released but it’s been a few.
My interest on your initial syncing time is based on the fact that when I reset syncing on my primary windows computer to a second windows computers and Android phone it takes less than one minute. However other, especially those with iPad and iPhones say they can’t get them to sync, other who are patient say they leave them syncing overnight and, in the morning, they have synced. The variation in time it takes seems strange.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/448012212018-02-27T15:44:27Z2018-02-27T15:44:27ZHow long should initial syncing takes

My build is 1656. I may have mentioned this in my original post, but when syncing didn’t complete after so long I became concerned that the process had hung up. Given what you report about the experience of others with Apple equipment, I will be patient in the future.

Eric Weir
