I am not sure your problem was created by updating to 1671. I have updated both my synced computers without any issues. But anything is possible.

Can you confirm on your second computer under FILE – SYNCING that the selection of syncing method is not greyed out. If so the next step would be to reset syncing as outlined below.

I can only think of one scenario that could create the issue you are seeing. Do you use the same backup location on Dropbox? Is so within the same day backups will overwrite each other. Check settings under FILE – PREFERENCES – BACKUP on both computers. Is it possible on your second computer you restored from a backup that was in fact a primary computer backup? This would give the results you describe.
In any event do a FILE – EXPORT BACKUP on both computers to different locations.
As you second computer is the most up to date I would make this your primary computer.

So, in the following sync reset procedure when I talk about the primary computer it was your second computer. Your primary computer was your second computer.

If you have mobile devices use there setting menu to disconnect.

On your primary computer ensure “Sync Method” is set to “Don’t Sync” under FILE – SYNCING, then click OK.

On your second computer click on HELP – SHOW DOCUMENT FOLDER to open a file explorer, close Moneydance and delete your data sets “yourdatasetname.moneydance”.

Using your primary computer in the Dropbox folder delete the folder “.moneydancesync”. Watch the Dropbox icon and wait till it states “Up to Date”. This can talk some time.

In your second computer check that in the Dropbox folder that the folder “.moneydancesync” has been automatically deleted. You need to give Dropbox a short time to complete this deletion.

On your primary computer under FILE - SYNCING, set your “Encryption Passphrase”, set “Sync Method” to “Dropbox Folder”, click OK.

Wait for Dropbox folder “.moneydancesync” and its contents to be created. Check the Dropbox icon states “Up to Date”. This can take some time.

Wait until the same Dropbox folder appears on your second computer, again watch the Dropbox icon this time on your second computer and wait till it states “Up to Date”.

On your second computer starting Moneydance should open it in the welcome window, click on “Create a new account set”.

Select “Open Synced File” and use dropdown to select “Dropbox Folder” then click NEXT.

You should see a search screen headed “Select a synced document to open”

After a short search delay, it should then list your un-synced data set name used on your primary computer.

Highlight your data set name and click NEXT.

Enter the encryption password, the “Encryption Passphrase” you set on your primary computer under FILE – SYNCING.

Then click on FINISH. Wait for your data to be synced.

You may find a lot of old, maybe closed accounts or other accounts you have removed from the side bar reappearing in the second computers side bar. Use the “+” sign at bottom of side bar then ADVANCED to tidy up the side bar.
If in any step you don’t get things how I describe, detail what you are seeing, including screen shots.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/450518712018-04-12T00:35:57Z2018-04-12T00:35:57Zsyncing hosed again

I've tried it 3 times (definition of insanity) and every time I get stuck on step 6 (if I understood your primary and secondary references being in reverse, this is on the old secondary/new primary with the latest data). When I open MD, it automatically recreates the moneydance sync folder in Dropbox, and under Syncing it is stuck on Don't Sync without the option of changing it, as if it's still the old secondary. Maybe I'm misunderstanding your directions?

Thanks,
Weird.

Dan Hangertag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/450518712018-04-12T07:49:19Z2018-04-12T07:49:19Zsyncing hosed again

I am not support staff, just a user.

OK, if the computer that has your latest data set and thus the one you want to use as the primary computer won’t let you change the syncing method, then there is a way forward.

Support have provided a file called "md2017_convert_secondary_to_master.py" that should resolve this problem for you, see attached. Before proceeding, please back up your Moneydance data set, just in case something goes wrong. You can create a manual backup using the FILE -EXPORT BACKUP.

To use the .py file, first save it to your computer, somewhere you can easily access it like your downloads folder or your desktop. Then follow these steps:

In Moneydance, select Window --> Python Scripting.

In the window that opens, select 'Open Script' then navigate to the .py file wherever you saved it on your system.

Select 'Run' to execute the file.

Wait a few moments until you see a message on screen, confirming the script has run successfully.

Close and reopen Moneydance

You need to follow the sync reset procedure as outlined in post 1. But depending on how things were left you may have already deleted the Dropbox “.moneydancesync” folder and the data set on your second computer. If so just skip these steps.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/450518712018-04-12T23:19:00Z2018-04-12T23:19:00Zsyncing hosed again

Everything is good now, thank you.
