When syncing you have a primary computer on which syncing was setup under FILE – SYNCING and a secondary computer which was synced to the primary under FILE – NEW - OPEN SYNCED FILE. On the secondary computer the syncing method under FILE – SYNCING is not accessible. The primary and secondary computer auto backups are not the same ever though they use the same naming convention. So, if you have set your backups to use the same shared location you can end up restoring your primary computer with a secondary backup as they overwrite each other in the same day.

To convert a secondary data set into a primary data set proceed as follows.

Make sure all computers have the latest build from https://infinitekind.com/download-moneydance-personal-finance-software.

I would first rename your Dropbox folder “.moneydancesync” and move it to the hard drive of one of your computers. It can be deleted once things are working again.

Support have provided a file called "md2017_convert_secondary_to_master.py" that should convert your secondary data set, see attached. Before proceeding, please back up your Moneydance data set, just in case something goes wrong. You can create a manual backup using the FILE -EXPORT BACKUP.
To use the .py file, first save it to your computer, somewhere you can easily access it like your downloads folder or your desktop. Then follow these steps:

In Moneydance, select Window --> Python Scripting.

In the window that opens, select 'Open Script' then navigate to the .py file wherever you saved it on your system.

Select 'Run' to execute the file.

Wait a few moments until you see a message on screen, confirming the script has run successfully.

Close and reopen Moneydance.

Click FILE - SYNCING, and you should now be able to select the required sync method.

Then set up syncing with your other computer in the normal way.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/452171192018-05-04T04:04:26Z2018-05-04T04:04:27Zsync disappeared

Perhaps I'm being thick, but how do I save the .py file to my computer?

Judytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/452171192018-05-04T07:10:39Z2018-05-04T07:10:39Zsync disappeared

I am not support staff, just a user.
