Hi Andrew

The Moneydance mobile app you would have installed on your iPhone has an embedded Dropbox API (Application Program Interface) and thus does not use the separate Dropbox app it sounds like you have installed on your phone. If Moneydance is the only reason you have Dropbox installed on your phone you can if you want uninstall it to save space. As you have installed Dropbox on your computer then the syncing method you should use in Moneydance is Dropbox Folder. Note the other Moneydance Dropbox syncing method, Dropbox Connection also uses an embedded Dropbox API and some people use this method so they don’t have to install Dropbox client app on there computer, just have at least a free Dropbox account.

On your computer under FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac)- SYNCING, set your “Encryption Passphrase”, set “Sync Method” to Dropbox Folder and click OK.

Wait for Dropbox folder “.moneydancesync” and its contents to be created in your Dropbox folder. Check the Dropbox icon states “Up to Date”. This can take some time. Note on Mac “.moneydancesync” can be hidden, try in your Finder window, typing CMD-Shift-G and then pasting ~/Dropbox/.moneydancesync/ into the box to unhide.

On your iPhone start the Moneydance app. You should see the Dropbox icon. Click on this and follow the on-screen instruction to allow Moneydance access to you Dropbox account.

At some point you will be asked for the Moneydance Encryption Password (Passphrase) you entered in step 1.

Initial syncing of your data can take some time, be patient.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/479004962019-12-06T09:35:05Z2019-12-06T09:35:06ZConfused

Brilliant and thank you

Please open Moneydance on the computer, to access the file you'd like to share. Choose File --> Syncing.
In this window you should pick a Dropbox sync method. If you choose 'Dropbox Connection', you'll be prompted to visit the Dropbox site and retrieve an authorisation code that you can enter into Moneydance.
You should also create and enter a syncing encryption password if you haven't already.

When you open the mobile app, click on the blue 'Dropbox' title and logo at the top of the screen. This will allow you to connect with Dropbox and access your sync files. You should pick the file you want to view, and enter the syncing encryption password to match the computer.

The steps to sync with a mobile device are also outlined in this article from the knowledge base.

Hopefully this information is useful. If you have any other questions please let us know.
