iCloud syncing fine, then stopped both ways
MD 2023.1 (5006), MacOS 13.3.1, iOS 16.4.1
I used to use Dropbox for sync. The iPhone would only update when I tapped Settings, then Done. Transactions added to the iPhone would take a while to sync (can’t remember exactly how long, but maybe an hour or two).
About a month ago, I switched to iCloud, which was working fine. But suddenly, now there are 5 transactions on my Mac that are not on my iPhone. I added one transaction to my iPhone as a test, and it simply will not appear on my Mac.
I quit and relaunched both the Mac app and the iPhone app, but still no sync.
When SHOULD sync occur? Automagically, on launch, or under some other condition? Any insight as to why iCloud sync has stopped working?

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi Gib
I cant talk about Apple products as I use 2 Windows laptops, a Linux Laptop and two Android Phones.
Using Dropbox Folder on my computers sync occurs when I open or close Moneydance and every 30 seconds thereafter as shown in console window.
On the phone it’s the same when viewing the account list. When in an account syncing holts until I exit to the account list . When in the account list the apps LAST SYNC message updates every 30 seconds.
So bottom line I make a change on one of my devices and it (above caveat on the phones) appears on the other devices within 60 seconds.
Sound like you need to set up syncing again from scratch or try a fix in the Extension Toolbox MENU: ADVANCED OPTIONS.
Hope this helps

Hi Gib,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.
Firstly, if you haven't already, you could try upgrading to the latest preview version.
Moneydance 2023.2 build 5007 is now available to download from this page.
For a full list of improvements in the preview version, please refer to this page.
That being said, if the problem persists, could you let us know if your data file is stored in default location?
Thank you

Yikes, no! I went to that location, and the MD file there was created 6/17 and last updated 4/23…perhaps when I upgraded to MacOS 13. My datafile is located at /Users/gibhenry/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Documents/Gib's Moneydance 4.moneydance.
Now, I can delete that outdated file at the default location, but how do I safely move my production file to that location? And should all my backups live there also?

The steps for 'safely' moving your data files to the default location are outlined here.
Also, you can navigate to the Moneydance Preferences and select the Backup tab, then un-checking the box for the backup location will move your backups to the default location.

Thank you, Maddy…when I launched v2023.2 and then chose Show Documents Folder, it seems to have fixed itself. Syncing is up-to-date in both directions, although the balance took a while longer. Well done!
And derekkent23, thank you, sync now appears to be automagic after just a few seconds, much faster than ever before. My datafile is a ridiculous 207MB, and eventually I'll have to do something about that…but not today!
