Currently have 2017 version
Hello,
I've been using Moneydance since 2004 and I love it!! I'm wanting to download the app and sync my files but I'm not sure if my current version (2017) supports it...can you give me additional info? Thanks!

Hi Deborah
Moneydance 2017 does not support syncing so you would need to upgrade to 2023 getting a 50% discount by using your existing key when you purchase.
See https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data
And
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/purchasing-and-upgrading/upgrading
and
https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/purchasing-and-upgrading/purchase-options
Turn off your Moneydance Password and backup Moneydance before upgrading.
You can reinstate your password once you have opened your data in 2023.
Hope this helps

Derek's statement needs some qualifications I believe.
Moneydance 2017 was the first version to support syncing, so it does indeed support it. Moneydance 2015 and earlier did not support it.
However due to changes made by Dropbox the 2017 version can no longer support Dropbox Connection, so your options are more limited. Syncing has also improved in later releases as it has been refined, so later releases are recommended.

Okay that's helpful, thank you. So... you have to have a Dropbox account
for syncing?

Not necessarily.
If you have a mobile device you must have Dropbox or on later versions of Moneydance if you have only Apple devices you can use iCloud.
If you are only using desktop/notebook systems you can also use shared folders, like from some sort of file server.

I store all of my files and backups for moneydance on my Google Drive and I
have an Android phone. Can I do it that way without dropbox?

If you want to use Moneydance on the Android phone then Dropbox is required.

Okay thank you for the specific clarification. Much appreciated!

Hi Deborah
Just to add all you need is a free Dropbox account, no need to have a paid Dropbox Account.
You made a statement “I store all my files and backups for Moneydance on my Google Drive”. Storing Moneydance backup on Google Drive is great but using 2023 you should leave the Moneydance Data Set folders in the default location on your hard drive to avoid corruption.
Hope this helps.

I would echo what Derek has just said, do not place your "in use" data on google drive or any other shared service.
The way these services work is just not compatible with the way Moneydance reads and write data, they are compatible with the way it write backup data and the way it reads/writes the files used in the syncing process, but your everyday data no they are not compatible! Use them for your everyday data, have a problem and we are likely to tell you to restore from your last known good backup and move the data files back to local storage.

Actually...my everyday data is on my local desktop...it's just set up to
store my backups on the Google drive in case something happens to the
desktop. So I think I'm good. I also backup everytime I exit MD and keep 5
back. Like I said...been using since 2004 and haven't had any issues (knock
on wood LOL). Thanks for the advice and tips!

This does help...thank you! I just verified it's only my backups that are
going to Google Drive...my in use data is on my local HD. Thanks!
