New MacBook problem

Hi all

I've just swapped my MacBook for a newer model. I have a Moneydance account with the main file kept inDropBox. However, I can't seem to find it on the DropBox app (although it is visible on the Dropbox website version). Also, there are several possible files none of which appear to be more recent than 2020 even though I use Moneydance everyday. So, two questions:
1. How do I view the .moneydanesync file in the Dropbox app?
2. How can I confirm that the '2020' file is the latest one (and the date is probably when I actually created the file, not updated it)?
Thanks!
Nigel

What do you mean by ‘ the main file kept inDropBox’? Do you mean that you used moneydance sync to Dropbox?

If you didn’t transfer the dataset to the new Mac, then have you tried file/new/open sync copy?

Also can you install/launch toolbox extension and check it doesn’t popup a Dropbox alias warning?

    Hi Stuart

First of all, thanks for reaching out. I’m an IT novice and not sure how things work! I had Moneydance for years on my old Mac and on my iPhone. the iPhone still has all my data but doesn’t offer the features I used to have on the Mac. I remember Dropbox was used as a sort of intermediary and thought that was where the data was held that both the Mac and the iPhone drew from. In setting up my new Mac the Moneydance app was asking me to find the data source and I assumed this was the one in Moneydance.

No, it's highly unlikely that your dataset was stored in dropbox. There would be a local copy on your old machine. However, it sounds like you setup dropbox sync and if all is well, then it can be recreated from sync.

So, have you tried points 2 & 3 in my last post?

    Hi Stuart

I'm still struggling here, so thank you for being willing to try to help. When I installed Moneydance on my new Mac, I got the options per the attached screenshots. I then clicked on "import" and got the next screenshot. As you can see, within Dropbox, there is no Moneydance file visible.

However, if you look at my Dropbox on the web, there is a .moneydancesync folder!

Also, when you look at my iPhone app, you can see that it is syncing with Dropbox

Finally, when I check the Moneydance app on my iPad, it has the latest transactions. So, entering data on my iPhone app is definitely syncing with the iPad.

So, here's the problem: I can't 'see' a Moneydance file using Moneydance "import". But, even if I could, I'm not sure which to use because the five moneydance files visible on the web have creation dates not 'last modified' dates.

    any thoughts?

    Nigel
