To change syncing methods you need to go back to being a single standalone system then build up syncing again using the different method you want to.
You cannot just switch methods as Moneydance needs to set up the pointers and to build the shared location. So you need to disable syncing to start with..

Hi Edmond,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
If you wish to sync your data file with other devices, please refer to these articles:
"Syncing with Other Computers" here
"Syncing with Mobile App" here
If you wish to have your backups saved to Dropbox, you can amend the backup file settings by choosing Moneydance --> Preferences, then select the 'Backups' tab, as outlined in this article of the Knowledge Base.
From this window, you can amend the backup location, and choose the maximum number of backups to be stored.
It is possible to amend the backup location, to ensure the automatic backup files are sent to Dropbox. This will make your data accessible from another system, even if you were to encounter complete computer failure, for instance.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

I think I need a step by step guide on how to undo all the syncing to "go back to being a single stand alone system" , since I had syncing set up before, and I tried to start syncing with a new file on new Devices, but it didn't work. Any instructions out there how to "stop syncing" and remove anything that might prevent future syncing from working?

@Mom
In order to disable sync, you should launch Moneydance and open the file that is syncing. Then navigate to File->Syncing and set it to 'Don't Sync' - on each machine - then restart Moneydance.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

after I do that, I still see an old file dated last year still popping up as one to sync with - is it safe to delete the dropbox folder? any other way to completely undo any old interfering sync data?

Toolbox extension. Update mode. Advanced menu.
Force reset sync settings.
Then, if you like, you can delete all the subfolders under the hidden dropbox/.moneydancesync folder..
