Need for Mac Book

I bought a new iPad to replace my aging Mac Book Pro thinking I would no longer need the Mac?
I saw that there was a version of Moneydance for the iPad and iPhone. Can it really be true that I must have a Mac to be able to use my new iPad?
I have used Moneydance for over 15years and thus have a great amount to data which I don't want to discard of course. I travel and wanted to not have to lug the Mac anymore as I am no longer as fit.
Any help would be appreciated .
thanks

Yup. The mobile app has limited functionality. You will need a Mac for full features.

    Thanks for your response.
Does my iPhone and iPad need to be close to the Mac or can it deal with it as long as they are all on wi fi?
I don't really use many features - mostly enter cash transactions using more than one currency and some memorized reports etc.
Is there a way to know what works and what doesn't ?

For syncing between Apple devices you need to use iCloud or Dropbox.

Does my Mac need to be on in order to use the iPad?
If my devices are in different locations will it still work?
How can I find out what will work and what will not?

No both machines do not be on at the same time, transactions are being copied to iCloud/Dropbox and are stored there waiting for the other machine to pick them up.

    Location is irrelevant.

The mobile apps are for on the go data entry, so they work for that sort of thing with mostly Bank and Credit card accounts. They will also show Asset and Liability accounts but not other account types.
