Moneydance for Android won't sync

Moneydance for Android hasn't been able to sync on my phone since Jan 26, or on my wife's phone since Jan 27. I use Dropbox Connection for syncing.

I've done everything I should do (turned off sync in desktop app, deleted the sync files on Dropbox, disconnected sync on phone, restarted phone, set up sync again on desktop, confirmed new sync files are on Dropbox, set sync back up in app, even joined the beta program).

I see that this is a general problem, not something specific to my setup. I hope it's fixed soon!

    Same exact issue. Further details:
    - the android dropbox app sees the .moneydance sync folder and its content
    - the android moneydance app sees no folders in the "choose a data set" panel
    - the Mac Moneydance reports the dropbox sync functional
    - the Mac Dropbox does not show the .moneydance folder...
    Please help!

I'm having same problem since 26th January.

Moneydance android opens in choose a data set window, a temporary message flashes up "no folders found" I have checked and the.moneydancesynch folder is there as are the folders within it

I too hope they get the problem fixed quickly.

Kind of the same issue with back twist. I converted one of my old Surface Pro 3s to a Linux Nint and after a bit of trial and error got it to sync with my Android Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. Once I knew it would work. I backuped Moneydance that was on my Desktop HP. Then changed the OS to Linux Mint. Installed the Linux version of Monenydance and dropbox. Everything looked good until I tried to sync to the phone. Tried directly to dropbox. Then to dropbox folder but whe. I opened the phone it said it hadn't synced for several months. So I removed the connection in the Monenydance app to dropbox. When I tried to connect to a folder there wasnt one there but when reinstalled the Moneydance app it connected immediately to what I think is an older data set. And I can't figure out where. Any suggestions? SINCE I have a.fresh back up i could always uninstall dropbox from both devices and wipe out everything on the web version of dropbox but wasnt sure if that was the way to go. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

In order to determine what might be causing the problem, please can you provide the information below:

    • Which version and build of Moneydance are you using? To check, open Moneydance and select Moneydance/Help --> About Moneydance

    • Which version of the Moneydance Android app are you using?
To check, press and hold the app icon, tap App info, and scroll to the bottom to see the version number.

    • Can you let us know which operating system you're running on your (primary) computer?

    • Is your data file stored in the default location?

Please note: if you are syncing your data with a mobile device, or another system - you should NOT move your data file to a shared folder location, like Dropbox. The file should remain on your local system if your data is being synced or shared, as outlined here.

    • When you navigate to File->Syncing which sync method do you have selected? Dropbox Folder or Dropbox Connection?

    • When you navigate to Moneydance > Settings/Preferences > Network, is the feature "Sync data with mobile devices" selected?

    • Finally, is your most recent data showing on your phone or on your computer?

    Thank you

    Hi Maddy,

Thanks again for the response. Actually, through a bunch of research
and then re-reading your previous emails. I missed your comment about
joining the Beta testing of the Android MoneyDance app. I guess I took
it as a suggestion and not something that was required. I had a thought
maybe the app wasn't seeing the hidden folders in Linux because I
noticed when I set sink it didn't have the .moneydance folder in the
link and it should be. During my research on line I came across an
article that discussed how to fix the issue of not being able to sync
with the Android App because of this hidden folder issue. The article
mentioned several possible fixes but it also said some folks had success
with the Beta Version of the App and a light bulb went off! I went back
to re-read your emails and sure enough it was there and after re-reading
the email and the article I realized it wasn't a suggestion, it was
actually a solution. As you recommended I enrolled in the Beta Testing
program, download the app, but had to go back into the play-store and
when I went to the app this time it had Beta under it. I updated to the
beta version and it worked! Did several tests and so far the only issue
I have noticed is you can not make any changes in the phone app, like
change amount or delete and have the changes take place on the desktop
if the entry is already saved on the desk top. You have to make any
changes in the desk top then it will change in the phone app.

Hope the above input helps. Again I believe the issue is the hidden
folders in Linux and Moneydance doesn't include them in the file
locations but information is there once you realize the folder is
hidden. But the Android app doesn't see the folder at all because it's
not listed in the sync folder area.

    Thanks again Maddy.

Thank you for the additional information, Josh!

We recommend installing the latest Beta version of the Moneydance app, as it should resolve the issue for you.

Firstly, press and hold the Moneydance mobile icon to uninstall v.2022 then you can join the beta program to install version 2026 of the Android mobile app.

You can download it from the bottom-right corner of this page, or directly through Google Play.

To join the Google Play Services beta, sign up either in a web browser or on your device. Once you’ve enrolled, the beta version will automatically download to any device using the same Google account. After restarting your device, the beta will be active.

    To enable automatic updates:

    Open Google Play

Tap the three‑line menu in the top-left

    Go to Settings

    Select Auto‑update apps

After installing version 2026 Beta, restart your devices in turn.

Launch the mobile app and navigate to Settings->Reset, then restart your phone.

Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Moneydance for Android won't sync

I am confused: I believe this thread got mixed between an android issue and a Linux issue. Going back to the Android issue, and trying to reply:
-Mac version is 2024.4 (5253) on Mac Tahoe 26.2
-Android version is 2022.2 on on Android 16
    - method on Mac is Dropboc connection, and there is no network tab in preferences
    - on Mac data are visible just fine.
As others mentioned, the issue started on or around jan 26, and no changes in the operating systems happened recently. Sync always worked with Dropbox.
I'd appreciate a practical help, as the android app has been a daily tool for decades now...

Sorry guardavi. That was done by accident. I was going to respond on here about how I resolved my Android sync issue and was going to use some of my response to Maddy at infinite kind to help compose the response. I thought I collided the email but somehow it appears it quoted and automatically posted. I know my issue was syncing between Lunix and Android but its still an Android sync issue.
What Maddy helped with is the Beta program for the Android App. I discovered part of the path for syncing was hidden i.e. /.moneydance/ it would show up under the sync section with the entire path except that part of the path was missing and the Android app wouldn't see it. The beta version worked fine so if part of your path is hidden then the beta version may work. Heck who knows mabe the beta version will work anyway. Couldn't hurt to try.

Thanks. Installing the beta resolves my syncing trouble. Syncing appears to
    be working both directions.

(I thought I had installed the beta before, but it turns out I still had
    2022.2.)

Where should we send feedback on the beta app? The app fills the screen,
but sticks some of the material under the navigation bar at the bottom, and
some of it under the notifications bar at the top. That's a functionality
issue, though I hasten to add that the app is now functional again, and the
full-screen problem is minor compared to losing the ability to sync.

    Best.

    @Brian

The fix will be included in the stable release once the main issues have been resolved in the beta and the Play Store has approved the update. That’s usually the final step before it becomes available to everyone.

I am glad that the beta resolved the sync issue. However I cannot agree that the overlap issue is minor, as it is immpossible to save a new transaction (save button ineffective). So the app can only be used to look at the PC data, on my side, while its main usefulness is in entering transaction one by one during the day.
I'll be looking forward for the final release.

I have had the same issue since Jan 26 with the android MD app. So, looking at Maddy's notes above, I looked to see what version MD is installed on my laptop. And so, just now, when I went to determine which version of MD I have been usingp, it says it is unregistered!

This upset me, as I have always bought the latest upgrade and thought the software was registered. However, i recently bought a new laptop and installled MD on it. I tried entering the license # from my older laptop, but that was rejected. Do I need to deregister MD on the older computer before I can register it on the new? I really prefer to keep the older one until I know everything is working propoerly on the new. I'm sure I'm not the only user with that issue.

    Thank you!

    Hi All,

Google is now reviewing another update to the beta app which should fix the issue with changes not saving unless you leave the app open until the next sync pass. It will hopefully be available for download within another day or two. If you've opted in to the Alpha channel then you should be able to download it immediately.

I'm sorry for all of the turbulence, and hope to get this resolved and the android app back on stable ground and better than ever ASAP.

    Thanks,
    Sean

    Hi Kathy,

I wouldn't worry about the license registration. If it's not blocking you from doing what you need to do, feel free to keep using the latest version in a "trial mode".

I also had problems syncing between an Android phone and a laptop running Linux. Following this thread and creating a new dataset, I got syncing to work, but not on my real dataset.
    Details - Phone Moto G Power %G - 2023
    Android - Version 14
Mobile app - Beta updated Feb 5, 2026
Laptop - Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon Gen 6
    OS - Ubuntu Linus 25.10
    Moneydance - Version 2024.4 (5253)
    Syncing - via Dropbox folder
Both sync directories reside in Dropbox/.moneydancesync. Here is the output from du -h of Dropbox/.moneydancesync so you can see the sizes of the datasets:
    terry@fred:~/Dropbox/.moneydancesync$ du -h
    46M ./27be2caf-7234-4fc9-b977-e68ed344a220/v3
    46M ./27be2caf-7234-4fc9-b977-e68ed344a220
    180K ./b9949095-9f21-4b21-a70d-32feb8096506/v3
    228K ./b9949095-9f21-4b21-a70d-32feb8096506
    46M .
    Any ideas?

Beta version sees sync files on Dropbox now but setting a PIN to open the app is grayed out. This is a security issue that needs to beactivated.

Followup on earlier post. It appears that transaction sync data is stored in the v3 sub-directories for each dataset. In the working dataset, the trunk .mdtxn file is 48 kbytes. In the working data set, the trunk .mdtxn file is 46 Mbytes.
When opening the app, it reports "Scanning sync folder" followed by "Processing x of y updates" where y is the number of .mdtxn files for the dataset and x is one less than y. It then crashes. I am conjecturing that the app is having trouble with the large trunk .mdtxn file. if I add a transaction on the laptop and close md to force a sync, another .mdtxn file is created and x and y increment on the app. I hope this helps.
