android - very slow sync

I've managed to get the Android beta (20260130) to try and sync. I get the message about performing an initial sync, but the app stays on "Scanning sync folder..." for a very long time. Well over 1 hour and counting. Is that what I should expect ? I've tried a few times and it hasn't changed.

Desktop app is 2024.4 (5253) on Windows 11. Sync is set to "Dropbox Connection".

Do I just need to be more patient ?

It is wise before setting up a syncing relationship with an existing data set that has a decent history timeframe that you use Toolbox to shrink the Account set and remove redundant data. That should make the initial sync smoother and improve the performance.

    Hi

I am running 20260205. Installed on the 5th Fed.

The old stable Android app only used to sync the last 365 days of data. The new builds sync all the data. On initial sync you will see a progress bar and a count of synced data. Follow dwg advice to shrink the data set on your computer first.

I am signed in as a tester on the Alpha page at https://infinitekind.com/prepreview
Don’t think its available on the beta page.

There are still issues with biometrics/pin but syncing works if wait for the date to update on the main screen before closing the app.

I have been testing the app for Sean the moneydance developer and he is aware of the remaining issue and in discussion he hope to fix these soon.

    Thank you for the comments.

I have used the Toolbox to shrink the dataset but it has made no difference to the sync process. I get a message that Moneydance is performing an initial sync, along with the message "Scanning sync folder" and a progress bar that continually sweeps from left to right and repeats. There is never a count of synced data even after more than an hour.

    Hi md

    Did you update to 20260205?

I haven't been able to update to 20260205.

The link to the Alpha version on the page that you linked just tells me that I don't have access because I haven't been invited.

    Hi md

Sorry, I did not know a user had to be specifically invited to become a Alpha tester.
I guess you will have to wait until the build is promoted to Beta.

    Hi

Moneydance developer Sean is working on an Android solution. As an Alpha tester currently testing build 20260205 syncing works unless you close the app almost immediately after entering a transaction. The main issue is related to biometric/pin app opening. Hopefully Sean will sort this soon and after more Alpha testing will release a new build for others to install.

    Hi Derek

    Thank you for your help.

I've installed the 20260205 version that was pushed to the Beta channel, and the sync seems to be working based on some limited testing.

I ended up turning sync off, deleting the moneydancesync folder from dropbox and removing the Android app, then re-creating everything. Not sure if all that was really necessary, but it didn't seem to be working initially. Once I did that, the sync was really fast so maybe there was a dodgy file in the dropbox folder that was causing an issue.

    Hi

    Great.
Now we have to wait for some smaller issues to be fixed.
