MD on Android stopped seeing Dropbox folders

I wonder if anyone has had an experience similar to mine: Starting a few months ago, the Android app stopped syncing transactions. I reinstalled it, and noticed it does not see the sync folders in Dropbox. It asks me to log into Dropbox, I authorize the connection to Moneydance, but then it reports that it does not see any relevant folders (and hence cannot connect to them).
The folders are obviously there, and I have two other computers syncing with them successfully.

    Hi H

You ask if anyone has had an experience similar to mine. The answer is everyone using the current stable build of the Android app. The section you posted in, Syncing Moneydance with iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Android Devices is full of discussion on Android problems.

At the moment the only way forward is to uninstall he Android app. Sign up as a Beta tester at https://infinitekind.com/preview
Wait some time until Play Store recognise you are now a Beta tester and on your Android install the Beta build. Set up syncing on your phone and wait for it to sync. On the SETTING window you should see build number. After adding a transaction on your phone on the main screen wait for a sync time update before closing the app. Note when active PIN LOCK enables a feature Authentication Required. Fingerprint or your phone pin to access. This feature does not work correctly; you can see account data and access without using finger print or pin. Hopefully this will eventually get fixed.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, derekkent23!

So what you essentially say is that MD on Android is known-broken for a few months, and the only way to use it is using the beta version? I am reluctant to use a beta version because I am not a beta tester and the data I use is production data which I cannot afford to lose or damage due to bugs.

I believe the only alternative, and only for mobile-device entry, is to use tools like GNU Cash on Android and export into a format MD on the PC can import.

    Hi H

Essentially yes. The stable build is known-broken.

You could do a FILE – EXPORT BACKUP and then FILE – RESTORE FROM BACKUP unticking the keep sync setting from original file then you would have two datasets of your production Data with different names. You could sync your newly restored dataset with the Android Beta and see how it goes. You would have to keep two data sets updated whilst you gained confidence.

As alway ensure Moneydance auto backup is setup on both data sets.

    It’s up to you.

    Have Fun, Stay Safe.

Yes, I realize I can do backups before trying the beta. I actually backup the underlying filesystem anyway. I am a bit taken down by that IK *knowingly* keeps a dysfunctional version as its only official one, and for quite a while as it seems.
This is probably not the forum to discuss alternatives/supplements, of which I am aware of very little (for Linux at least), namely just GNUCash and hledger, each with its own shortcomings...
