UK Market

Hi Moneydance,

I've been using Moneydance 2003 for quite a while but have been reviewing all the account software as the 2003 version doesn't do, well, very much really.

I've been amazed at the total lack of personal finance software that is geared to the UK market. How difficult would it be for you to write a UK version that tracked ISA's, TESSA's, tax, Nat Ins. VAT etc, as well as getting our banks to let us download files?

I think that its a real shame that if I purchase Moneydance 2008 I will not be able to use all of the features, yet I will still have to the full retail price.

Please please please can you make a UK version? You'd be the first personal finance software developers to do so as no one seems to have written anything geared to the UK market and all of our weird financial products.

I'd be more than happy to help test it and to recommend it!

Many thanks, Julia

Thank you for your suggestions for Moneydance, we appreciate the enthusiasm and excitement our users bring to the table! We are currently maxed out with development of the main version of Moneydance 2010, as well as our iPhone app, so it is unlikely we would be able to add this new functionality in the near future. That said, I will add it to our list of things to discuss during our next company visioning discussion.

Our wiki is integrated with our feature request and bug reporting system. Please feel free to register and use these systems to help improve Moneydance by bringing bugs to our attention and requesting new features. We now also have voting on all existing tickets, which helps us determine which requests have the most demand. It would be especially helpful to have a ticket with the tools and upgrades specific to the U.K.

I also invite you to check out our Moneydance 2010 beta.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

I use Moneydance in the UK but not for investment tracking more basic banking. UK banks have never bought into the automated download/initiate transactions from personal finance applications. I think one bank used it but not sure if that is still the case.

WIth Microsoft having failed to push the banks into using it is unlikely smaller companies will be able to.

You may also be focussing on the wrong type of application as I think Moneydance is more personal finance and national insurance and VAT are more business taxes. There is a mac business finance application but the name escapes me.

    Hi Ian,

I'm not too worried about the download features of Moneydance, but I would like to see Moneydance fully adapted to the UK market even without that feature. Everything is geared towards the American market but our range of financial products is very different.

I'm not looking for business accounting software as I used to work as a Bookkeeper, so I know a little about business software having used Sage, Viztopia and Merit, and that is definitely not what I am after. I am looking for something that will blend with the Self-Assessment Tax forms, and being able to analyse out Nat Ins etc is a big part of that.

Anyway, my wish hasn't been granted but I still think its a shame that there is yet to be a UK focussed personal finance product for the Mac. I also don't think 'size' matters either! With the internet and all its connectivity, small businesses can have more influence than they might imagine...

PS One of the business accounting product for Mac is MYOB.

I use this for self assessment. Works OK, despite being PDF based.

Not sure the UK market of mac users is big enough, especially if Microsoft couldn't make Money work in the UK on the PC.

    Hi Ian,

Thanks for the PDF - I shall have a look at that.

As for whether the UK market is big enough or not, well surely that depends on whether people think that they are going to be able to access equivalent or improved software on a Mac?

Positive movement forwards is needed, not a continual retraction to the trenches. There is a viable market here in the UK in fact, according to the press, its increasing and with Moneydance being recommended by Which? magazine it will only get better.

Just thought I'd voice my ideas in the hope that something changes - you never know unless you ask!

One simple change that is surely not manpower intensive, but would address some of the above needs is to make it possible for the user to select the source of data from which to download mutual fund data in the Stock Quote Synchroniser (e.g. or This simple change would at least enable non-US users to track their investments.

What is the status of Moneydance for the iPhone? I read a lot of postings that go back for almost a year that said is was coming soon.

It is still in progress, and will not be released before the end of 2009. We are currently quite swamped trying to keep up with inquires about the new release of Moneydance 2010. In a few weeks we'll post more information about the timeline for the iPhone app. I'm sorry I don't have more details at the moment.

Great news everyone, our developer thinks he will be able to release the Moneydance iPhone app before the end of 2009. We do not have a firm release date, but keep an eye on our blog for the latest info.
