Ugh...Schwab
Good afternoon,
I see that there have been many questions over the years about
connecting to Schwab, but as far as I can see, none ask the
question this way.
I go through the process to set up online banking and after I enter
the username and password, (all confirmed by Schwab) the window
changes to have two drop down menus with checkboxes to choose which
account for either online banking or bill payment. The Please
choose...etc message and the cancel button are available but the
two drop down menus and the Next button are grayed out. The only
action available to me is to cancel the process since I can't
access the menus or the next button.
My question: Is this MD not playing nice with Schwab or is this
Schwab not playing nice with MD?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Note: I confirmed with Schwab
that I was using the correct Schwab from the bank drop down menu
and when that didn't work I tried all the others with the same
result.
Best wishes to all for a great weekend.

Hi Laundry,
Typically when that happens it means that you're trying to download an account that's different than the type of account in Moneydance, so like trying to download an investment account into a bank account, for example. Can you make sure that the account that you're trying to download into is the same type as the type of account you're trying to download?
If you're still having trouble after that, could you send me the contents of your error console? Here's how to get the logs:
1) In Moneydance, click on the Help menu and select the Console Window option. This will open the console messages window.
2) While the Console Window is open, attempt to setup your banking connection. Any error messages should be recorded to the Console.
3) Select all of the text in the Console and use the "Copy to Clipboard" button at the bottom to copy the text.
4) Paste the text from the message window into a text file (preferably saved with a .txt extension) and attach that file to your response here.
The debugging logs that this produces will contain your account information. I've made sure that this conversation is private, so the info won't be broadcast to the world, but just to be safe you should redact any account info in the debug logs. Just replace it with something like "ACCOUNT NUMBER HERE" and it should be fine.

Scott,
Nice to chat with you again.
You pegged it. That was exactly what the problem is, but to my great relief, it isn’t my mistake. The two accounts I want to keep within MoneyDance are checking accounts held at Schwab. A few years ago, when interest rates were higher, we had them converted to checking accounts that could have part of the balance held in a money market. This required the accounts be coded as investment accounts. When we asked Schwab to undo that about four years ago, they just removed the money market access but never bothered to change the coding. It isn’t there fault either. From their point of view, the coding was a back office thing that in this case, didn’t matter.
I’d like to tell you I figured this out on my own, but that isn’t the case. I called Schwab and they couldn’t find the checking accounts. The tech said all we had were two investment accounts. He could see the original change and then the penny dropped.
So, thank you. This clears up everything. I created new accounts and it worked perfectly.
Andrew
