Trying to download from American Express in two different computers and two accounts gave this error: java.io.IOException: HTTP Error:503 Service

I refreshed the connection, checked for an update and disabled the connection. Now I cannot re-establish it.

I am stuck,

Debbie

After working as it should for a few weeks, it seems like the issue has resurfaced at least today/tonight. I'll check again tomorrow. (Same error code...)

Yep. Me too. Time to gather up the troops again, which given time zones means tomorrow at minimum as the start time....

but overall, same song, next verse:

Don't adjust your television... (i.e. reset, disconnect, etc.) until I and other users investigate this again.

MD+ does work, I didn't get rid of my double connections.
     More later on OFX.

I prefer OFX to MD+, as most know. But.... we will see.

To me, this means they are killing OFX, just we may keep it around a bit longer.

(Reminds me of all the work hleofxquotes, Stuart and I did to keep USAA on life support for over a year...)

Hello all. I appreciate the info always, but it seems that MD+ is going to be a long term answer. I hate having to pay for the service but in the end, for my small brain, they've worn me down and it feels like for a small fee I can avoid the future headaches.
With no disrespect intended, is there a way i can remove myself from the feed? I've looked and can't find an answer and i don't want to begin a new thread (HA). Thanks for the effort and any input.

I’m in the refuse to pay camp…. Will have to figure out a manual workaround, as I’ve had to do with Chase, USAA and BofA. If Merrill or Fidelity ever get rid of OFX, I’ll have to leave MD. Sad and annoying.

No company behind Personal Financial Management software will ever pick up the cost of using aggregators, there is no way to absorb it. Thus with any product there will be either discrete charges for the aggregators or they will offer the software via subscription and build the cost into the subscription price.

Did anyone else get a random message that they had unsubscribed to this thread? (Not talking about the person above who asked for that.). Has an admin been removing people? To be clear, I *want* to know when the brain trust fixes this.

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Amex MD + issue

I read through this thread - I gave in to the MD+ subscription eons ago because of USAA, so that's not an issue, but I have noticed that MD+ hasn't downloaded a new transaction from AmEx in about a week. Everything else is working fine (USAA and Chase). Like others, I had issues at the beginning of August and then gave up and connect through MD+. It worked fine for a few weeks, but no more. Curious if this is the same issue others are having or if this is just OFX issues thread.

MD+ is downloading Amex transactions for me, but it is a day or two behind transactions displayed on the Amex site. I think that's because Plaid retrieves transactions only once a day, or maybe less frequently. That is the beauty of OFX: it gives you a real-time view of cleared transactions.

@Dorothy - @jsblau is correct. MD+/Plaid, is slower than OFX, since (if working) OFX is a direct connection to the bank, and basically real time... There is a two way delay having Plaid as the aggregator - when do they get your data, and when do you ask for it.

The delay can be 1-7 days, with 7 of course being an exception (like holidays, etc.) - My record delay (since I watch this closely) is 10 days occurred for some reason last month (and of course only on ONE account , the delays are by account, not by bank), and someone here had a six day delay recently.

So, what is "about a week"? 4-5 days - wait a few more. 8-9 days, yes that should be examined for maybe a different problem (resync dates needed, did you change account numbers, a few other things).

Today's update - American Express appears to be continuing to turn off pieces of OFX or at least not allowing them to be accessed (this is not good news). hleofxquotes says a critical piece is still there, but saying not allowed. (as opposed to non-critical pieces earlier by MD...)

hleofxquotes will be looking at this when there is time.

in the meantime, I went to quicken to see if they are having new issues, and it seems most of their messages about Amex are a couple weeks old (we know that one) and the most recent about Discover. If anyone else knows a quicken user, or a place where quicken users post (beyond the standard quicken site) having another pair of eyes looking for info (even among other third party personal financial sites), that would be helpful information.

@jsblau Thanks for the heads up. I don't see this level of delay with my other connected accounts and I've only had amex connected for a few weeks. In this case, "about 7 days" is "exactly 7 days" since the last download on Aug. 21. I reset the connection, removed it, revalidated via plaid (twice). Hoping it catches up by Friday before the holiday because it's our primary card and they're a lot to download. But appreciate the feedback that it might just be a slow week for downloading.

Reset/Remove/Reinstall simply delays things further, as your old timing gets abandoned by Plaid, and a new timing set up. So, look at the last time you did this - and that's your start date for the delay - it is no longer 7.

  27. 113 Posted by dtd on 28 Aug, 2024 06:05 PM

    dtd's Avatar

You might want to go look at Last Resync Date - each time you reset the account up, it asks how far back you want to go, correct, since it is now being looked at as a new account, and indeed you probably get what ever is older than Aug 21, but nothing past that date, correct (because that's all that's there, and Plaid sets up a timing for the next download).

Given this adjustment, Amex may be rejecting some requests (delaying things yet more) as continually resetting and restarting will often signal "potential hacker" even if they (meaning you of course) have the correct password.

  28. 114 Posted by dtd on 28 Aug, 2024 06:09 PM

    dtd's Avatar

In this case, if you have a lot to download, and "need it now" - I'd go to the Amex website, download the ofx file manually, and apply it to MD. Yes, you'll get duplicates that you will have to deal with (FITID number not unique), but you can clean that up.

Given what what you've said you've done, you MIGHT get an update by Friday, but I'd expect sometime next week, unless all these resets/redos have messed something else up. In cases like setting up bank downloads, doing less is often more...

So once agin, I'd be happy to pay a (reasonable) fee for MD+ but I will
**NEVER** use Plaid or any similar blood-sucking intermediary. I'd
manually download my activity every day before I use Plaid.

Just to be clear, I was conned into using Plaid once before (to sign up
for Venmo) and that is when I discovered their unethical, dishonest and
borderline illegal practices. When I asked them to delete my information
I also asked them to send me what they had collected from me and I was
shocked : line item detail of *all* my accounts for the online loign in
question dating back months, stored in their database.

I cannot understand how anyone can turn over their hole financial
history to a third party who then sells it to marketers. Worst threat to
    privacy in modern times.
