American Express Connectivity
I have been a money dance user for over a decade. I would like to continue but since you no longer seem to connect to AMEX I will be forced to switch. Do you have any plane to rectify this issue?

Hi Thomas,
I'm afraid there are problems with the AMEX connection which are being discussed in this public thread.
To summarise, unfortunately, AMEX has discontinued its use of OFX connections (including bill payment). You cannot reconnect after disconnecting because OFX/bill payment no longer exists.
We were able to restore connections in mid-August, but since then it has been turned off completely. The AMEX listing may still show up in the list of supported banks as you have previously used it, but it has now been removed from Moneydance.
You can connect to AMEX using Moneydance+. This is the optional subscription service that's available in Moneydance 2022 and newer versions of the program. Moneydance connects to your banks using the Plaid aggregator. But unfortunately, many customers have reported delays between AMEX and Plaid with some transactions not downloading for up to 10 days.
At this time, the most reliable method to download your AMEX transactions is to manually download QFX files from the banks website. You can follow the steps in this article to import QFX files into Moneydance. I understand this is less than ideal but manually downloading will ensure your accounts are kept up to date. Sorry I don't have better news.

Disappointing news but thank you very much for your fast and detailed reply. I will wait at least another quarter as I have just over 20 years of data.
Thank you again….Tom

Tom - there are no plans to fix this, as there is "nothing to fix". Amex discontinued OFX. About the only thing IK/MD can do is remove the Amex OFX link.
So if you want an alternative, Jenny's last two paragraphs explain two methods to continue getting downloads (but not bill pay, as that was part of OFX) - Amex wants you to use their bill pay.
"I will be forced to switch." That's your choice of course, but you will find no software that can access automatic OFX at Amex, so you'll have a lot of work to do and end up in the same situation.
You may point out that "Quicken still works", or another package "still works" - but Moneydance also "still works". Just not through OFX - I am using Moneydance+/Plaid to download my data - just as Quicken also uses an aggregator (happens to be Intuit, even though Quicken is no longer owned by Intuit) and other software must also now use an aggregator.
Those softwares that don't use an aggregator of some sort will also probably mention manual OFX/Quicken[QFX] downloads, assuming they supported those before this Amex shutdown.
Bottom line - blame Amex, not Moneydance (in my opinion, I'm just a user).

@Jenny - I'm one of the folks who reported delays downloading Amex via Plaid.
As you and I both know, MD+/Plaid is certainly slower than OFX (i.e. that's why OFX is called direct connect), but 10 days tends to be an anomaly. I can report that my Amex downloads via Plaid have now pivoted to about 2-4 days versus 10 or so (which occurred right about when OFX was shut down (permanently) by Amex, so there may have been some issues right at that time).

@dtd - Thanks for your update! We have been hesitant to advise customers to use Moneydance+ for their AMEX downloads because of the delays. It's great to hear that the delays have been reduced. Hopefully, it continues that way (or improves further!) 🤞 I'll be sure to let other AMEX customers know. Thanks again.

To add some informaiton for Mac users:
Connecting to AMEX via Plaid does not work when using Safari -- AMEX's website will display a generic error message telling you to try again later. It lies. I intercepted the URL going to Plaid (after clicking "connect more accounts" in MD+) and pasted it into Edge. Then I was able to complete the AMEX link.
