There was an error communicating with your financial institution
"The error code reported by the server was: 0" I download separately from 4+ accounts and the others worked OK. But this one failed. What does the error mean and how can I fix it?
thx

I tried re-setting the connection info but it again failed with the same error. The financial institution is TIAA so perhaps there is something temporary going on with them?

Status Code of 0 means success, which means, in this case, you are not being told anything useful.

Yes, "...status code:0" But no data was downloaded. So I'll try again Monday morning and if still no data, I guess that means a call to TIAA?

Their server is probably down, but reporting back as if ok. That's why no data downloaded. Monday morning may be too soon for a server issue. Wait a day or two, would be my suggestion.

Tried again after 3 days. Here's the complete reply:
"There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
The error code reported by the server was: 0"
Tried deleting the account and re-establishing it...Got the same result.
Tried Calling a TIAA web-support person and told them I was down-loading into "Quicken" (which works the same way) They either didn't understand my issue or something and said to not use special characters in my password. Didn't think that was right, but tried it...again no connection with TIAA, no download of xxx.qfx file etc.

Dont know what TIAA is, but some banks have been shutting down their Direct Connect Connections in favor of aggregators... American Express did that in early September.
If that's the case, you will have to move to manual downloads (can you do that for this current being down) or see if TIAA is available in MD+

TIAA is a financial institution like Vanguard but specifically serving teachers. I called them again and spoke to a higher level support person. I explained that I'd been using "Quicken Direct Connect" to download their data for 5+ years and that it suddenly stopped working. She started a problem ticket from her side but no result yet (2 days). She also said that TIAA is going (or has gone) to a service/protocol called "Open Banking" which is different from Direct Connect. My guess is that this might be the issue.
If so, will using MoneyDance+ enable me to get TIAA acct data that I've been locked out of?

Well the Open Banking initiatives does not exist in the US, but I suspect she means FDX in which case it would mean using an aggregator, in the case of Moneydance this means Moneydance+ which is the aggregation service they offer and is provided by Plaid as a extra paid for service.
Whether Plaid currently support TIAA I cannot tell you, only those with an account can do a lookup.

This is what I get when I type TIAA into the Moneydance+ setup. You will probably have to insure that third party connections are in place (but MD+ usually guides you through that) - again I only know what you wrote about TIAA.

You can sign up for MD+ on a time trial basis (not sure how long) before the subscription fee kicks in, and cancel within the trial if it doesn't work for you.

Also, piece of advice - don't move or setup the 4+ in MD+ (yet) as they are still working via Direct Connect. Move only if they start failing. Direct Connect is much better and faster than MD+ as that is a "direct connection" between you and that bank whereas MD+ (and any aggregator) is a third party placed between you and your bank(s)...
