Money Dance Stopped Syncing With My Banking Institution
Hello:
Money Dance has stopped syncing/receiving information from my Banking Institution when I choose to an Online Update/Download. I receive the following message "A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server. Error Description: javax.net.ssl. SSL Handshake Exception. Received fatal alert: handshake_failure." Your help is greatly appreciated. P.s does this have anything to do with MoneyDance+?

I assume you are using MD+ (Plaid) for this transaction downloading?
What version of MD are you using (including build number)
What OS?
It sounds like the security certificate for the bank has expired. You might want to look at the error in the console log and see if there is anything there.
To post the log, open the Console Window, clear the log. Attempt to download the bank info and then copy and paste the new diagnostic text, remove any private information first.

This comment was split into a new private discussion: Money Dance Stopped Syncing With My Banking Institution
Hello:
Thanks for the reply. I have the option to use MD+ to set up or add
banking institutions, but have not. I am not sure when that feature was
added? I used to do online update/download of my banking information
with the information that I manually set up in MD a few years ago.
I have done the most recent MD update I believe (Version 2024.4(5253)).
I am using Windows 10 but will upgrade to Win 11 soon. I am not too
computer literate so the whole console log/window is new to me. If MD+
is the answer to sync with listed banking institutions then that is the
route
I will go. When setting up MD+ is asks for an email address. I am
unsure what email address to use? Thanks for your help.

@CPV, so you are trying to use direct connect to download banking info form a financial institution. You are using the latest version of MD on W10.
Did this work in the past? Is the institution Vanguard? Can you disclose what institution it is. (Vanguard stopped being able to download in December, and has claimed that they are working on restoring things, but nothing has happened.)
MD+ is an add-on for extra monthly cost that uses a company called Plaid that can make secure connections to banks and brokerages in the US only. It then is set up to transfer that data to MD through servers at InfiniteKind (The Moneydance developers). It asks for an email and credit card to register and charge you the monthly fee. From the download page:
To show the Console Window, use the "Help" menu and select "Console Window", this has a lot of diagnostic information.
Here are the financial institutions for direct connect downloading of data:
https://infinitekind.com/fi
Not sure which banks are supported by MD+ or how to get a list of supported financial institutions.

STH:
Thanks for the information. My banking information was
updating/downloading online until recently. Now that I think of it,
Online downloads may have stopped working with the last MD update
install? Just a Thought. Interesting! I will continue to work on the
issue and figure it out. Thanks for all of your help.

I'm having the same issue with OFX

Carl:
My MoneyDance stopped syncing in OFX directly with my Bank as well.
There is probably a reason which I have not figured out. Possibly
security. I ended up purchasing MoneyDance+. It took a little bit to
figure out. Plaid (the third party that connects to financial
institutions) had some issues connecting with my bank but the problem
has been fixed. The connection issue may have been with my bank. So
far MD+ works well. It cost $4 a month or $40 a year. The price is
reasonable, but if the price goes up next year I'm not sure what I will
do. I hope that this information helped.
