Slow Going Setting Up MD+

I must be a real idiot!

So I got the annual subscription. Easy enough!

I decided on a bank as a first try.

I do Setup MD+ and add an account.

I get taken to Plaid and search for the bank. It IS a bank/credit union. I have a CD there.

I go through the login process and it takes me supposedly directly to the bank login - although it looks like Plaid, not the bank. I log in and they do 2FA and I do all that. Plaid says OK, connected.

I now go to try and download for that bank - it has never been connected before since they never did Direct Connect. I choose MD+ and now once again I go thru the step above. I do this 3 freaking times. Finally, I note here <https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/moneydance/connect-accounts-with-moneydance> that you have to exist MD and come back in.

So I do that and then I go to the Accounts tab in MD+ as instructed. I see the same bank/CD 3 times! For each one, I try clicking the Click to Select Account button. Every time, I am shown a list of MD accounts. But the only ones on the list are INVESTMENT accounts and this is a BANK account. So I cannot "map" the Plaid connection to the bank and I am stuck in concrete!

Not to mention, how do I get rid of the 2 extra Plaid links to the exact same account that Plaid apparently could not tell I had already connected once already. OH, by dumb luck I answered this myself. Click on the "Connected" button and you can remove them. Whew!

AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!

Thanks for any suggestions. I am stumped and not going any further with this until I can get this simple test case to actually work.

    Hi David,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

Firstly, you should navigate to the bank's website to check that your accounts are individually enabled for third party access and they do not require a one-time authorization password, for instance.

Also, please ensure that your accounts are assigned as described in this article.

Finally, if you have a firewall, VPN, antivirus software or any other software that might be blocking Moneydance's access to the internet, you could try disabling it and see if you're able to connect then.

    • You might also try switching to a different browser if the current one isn’t loading the webpage properly.

Finally, can you confirm the name of your bank/credit union, please?

    Thank you

Thanks Maddy. You might note that in my original post, I referenced the exact same article that you have linked-to.

At this point, my main problem is this:

After managing to get Plaid connected and then trying to match the connection to a MD account, I am shown a list of MD accounts. But the list shows only INVESTMENT accounts (in fact the list matches all of the active INVESTMENT accounts I have in MD) and this is a BANK account. So I cannot "map" the Plaid connection to the bank. And therefore, I cannot even try to download transactions.

Is there something in the Plaid data that causes MD to restrict the list of accounts being shown? If so, there is confusion as these are CDs held here <https://www.numericacu.com/>. They are demand deposits not investments, per se. This is a bank, not a brokerage.

    Thanks

Here is the full list that is offered. All are INVESTMENT, none are banks.

I really hope there can be some clarification on this. My 30 day trial is underway and I am stuck because I cannot even map my 1st Plaid connection to its MD account. Thanks

So I went ahead and tried to use the Toolbox to change the single Credit Union account from a Bank to an Investment as it seems that somehow, for some reason, MD+ insists upon this.

After the change and restart of MD, I see the account has been moved and now shows as an Investment account. And when I go back to Setup MD+ this account now appears on the list of accounts available for mapping the Plaid connection. So I chose this mapping and then tried to download transaction for this.

There was a delay and then the attached dialog was shown.

I am getting nowhere slowly :-(

The lengthening lack of response on this issue is disturbing.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the delay getting back to you. I’m afraid that your request for assistance was missed by the support team, and it’s only now we’ve been able to work through the backlog of older discussions. I must apologise again for the poor level of service and lack of support you have received. I’d like to provide assistance if you’re still in a position to work through these issues.

Please rest assured that your query has been escalated to Plaid support, and their team is actively investigating the issue. We’ll keep you informed via this thread as soon as we receive any updates.

Thank you for your continued patience, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Thanks. But I have already canceled my MD+ trial and removed my Plaid connections.

The recently resolved problem with Heritage Bank that I reported (and is not "fixed") was the main thing pushing me into MD+. I was only willing to try a single bank setup of mine for such a trial. I learned a couple things:

    1. That when using MD+ connections, I am forced to turn what is legitimately a BANK account in MD into an INVESTMENT account in MD in order to make that one bank setup work. That really is a giant pain for me. And it was never an issue using OFX.

    2. Even when I did do #1, the Plaid connection to my "supported" bank did not work.

    3. Even if it did work, unlike OFX, MD+/Plaid downloads are NOT real-time/on-demand. It seems that Plaid is a store/forward mechanism. So if, for example, I expect downloads in the morning to be up-to-date with all most-recent transactions, there is no guarantee of that.

At that point, there was simply no purpose in prolonging the MD+ trial. If it could not work in such a simple scenario, could not work "cleanly" without my having to change my MD accounts all around to force-fit it into MD+/Plaid, etc - it was not worth my effort at this time.

Had I actually received some support/help, that might have been another situation.
