We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

The trial version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test downloading data from your bank, and importing data from other personal finance software.
If you decide to purchase the program at a later date you can keep all data you have entered during the trial period.

Please can you let me know which bank you’re trying to connect to?
Can you also let me know the ‘type’ of accounts you’ve been unable to download to Moneydance (checking, savings, loan etc)?

When you contact the bank to enable Direct Connect, the bank should allow you to use this service on all available accounts.
Within Moneydance when you setup a connection with your bank (via Online --> Setup Online Banking) you’ll have to specify ‘Online Banking’ and pick the account you want to use from a drop down menu. Are the missing accounts showing here? If not, it’s likely Direct Connect hasn’t been enabled for these specific accounts, or the bank don’t support Direct Connect for these account types.
You should contact the bank to ensure Direct Connect is setup correctly, and available for all accounts you’d like to use.

It's important you enable Direct Connect, as your bank use other connection methods that Moneydance does not support, called Web Connect and Express Web Connect.

You can read more about why we only support Direct Connect in our blog and also in this article.

Moneydance uses exactly the same OFX server connection protocol for Direct Connect as Quicken, but often bank representatives do not know this and mistakenly believe that you can not connect in Moneydance. You'll be advised "We don't support Moneydance, only Quicken". Calling your bank and stating precisely the following should get you started -

"Please enable Direct Connect on my account so that I can connect to your servers directly with Quicken. Also give me the login credentials I need to connect to this service."
