After downloading and importing transactions are your following the confirmation process, see

https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/c...

This is the process were you correct any wrong categories and in which Moneydance learns to use the correct categories in the future.

Hope this help.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/475714962019-08-30T14:13:36Z2019-08-30T14:13:36ZProblems with Categories after download

Thanks this does help - I'd see the process docs and have read them again. I think this is a mindset issue on my end - I need to adjust to the flow as a newly migrated user (from quicken).

The issue I have with the automated category assignment is that for some things it never going to be correct (e.g. purchases at big box stores where we buy different kinds of things each time).

In other cases it is often right and the automation works great.

I was just hoping there would be an easy way to clear the category for transactions I know are wrong so I recognize they are 'not done' but I guess I can make use of the 'confirmation status' for that.

thanks

jameshfxtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/475714962019-08-30T17:29:48Z2019-08-30T17:29:48ZProblems with Categories after download

I am not support staff, just a user.

Glad I was able to provide some help.

Have Fun

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/475714962019-09-07T01:29:05Z2019-09-11T08:51:52ZProblems with Categories after download

Unfortunately those well-written instructions have NEVER worked for me. I've used Moneydance for years and it has never managed to learn to correct a category error. For example, these two transactions are certainly similar, but they are clearly not the same:

COSTCO WHSE #1106 ANN ARBOR MI

COSTCO GAS #1106 ANN ARBOR MI

But since I entered the category for WHSE as "groceries", Moneydance now thinks that gasoline is edible. No matter how many times I correct it, no matter where I make the correction, Moneydance stubbornly refuses to be re-educated.

This is just one example of course -- other mis-categorizations persist along side this one. It's a minor irritant but it occurs every single time I confirm transactions so it does add up to a lot of time fixing things a computer should be able to manage on its own!!

jgreenb2
