Unable to connect to Credit Union

I am a new user (still on the trial version). I have been successful in downloading from all of my institutions except for Marshland Credit Union.

Marshland is listed in you institution list. I enter the required data; software says it has what it needs; then it does nothing. If I try to update Marshland, the line is grayed out.

I am using Marshland with Quicken and have no issues signing on in my browser.

    Hi Ken,

Could you send me the contents of your error console?  Here's how to get the logs:

    1)  In Moneydance, click on the Help menu and select the Console Window option.  This will open the console messages window.
    2) While the Console Window is open, attempt to connect to your bank.  Any error messages should be recorded to the Console.
    3) Select all of the text in the Console and use the "Copy to Clipboard" button at the bottom to copy the text.
    4) Paste the text from the message window into a text file (preferably saved with a .txt extension) and attach that file to your response here.

The debugging logs that this produces will contain your account information.  I've made sure that this conversation is private, so the info won't be broadcast to the world, but just to be safe you should redact any account info in the debug logs.  Just replace it with something like "ACCOUNT NUMBER HERE" and it should be fine.

    Hi Ken,

Could you check your account settings in Moneydance to make sure that your account and routing numbers are entered correctly? A typo in either of those could cause the problem you are seeing.

I have tried this operation more than 20 times, each time copying the
Routing and Account numbers directly from a blank check (I also tried
using the account numbers S1 or S8 which are type of account), with the
same result. I also enter the Customer ID. I am not able to select
OnLine Banking or Bill Pay as they are "grayed out". The last step
indicates that MoneyDance has the information that is needed. Then
nothing else happens (as fare as I can tell). There is no feedback to
the user of success or failure of the input data (I am assuming that the
software tries to communicate with Marshland FCU at this time). When
doing an online update, there is no attempt to try Marshland
FCU (all other accounts update properly). Why isn't there some sort of
    feedback as to what failed??????

I am able to communicate with Quicken. The information that Quicken
uses is the Routing Number; Type of Account (S1 or S8); and Customer
ID. Quicken also requires the account password. There is no place in
your setup for a password entry. The other information I enter is the
same as it is in Quicken (Quicken does not use the account number
    printed on the check).

Just a note that Marshland FCU requires a 4 digit verification at log
in, which you enter from a visual 4 digit image. Quicken prompts for
    this entry.

Hope I have not confused you.

To log into Marshland through Moneydance, you'll need to use your member number as your username and your regular website password as the password.

Can you try completely resetting your connection to your bank and see if that fixes the problem you're seeing? To do this, you'll need to force clear the current connection information for your bank in Moneydance. I'm sending a file called remove_one_service.py that will help do that. Before proceeding, please back up your Moneydance data set, just in case something goes wrong. You can use these instructions to create a backup:

    http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/moneydance-2014/how-to-move-your-da...

except copy your data set instead of moving it, in order to create a backup. So far, this hasn't caused any problems, but better safe than sorry!

To use the file, first save it to your computer and then follow these steps:

    1) In Moneydance, click on the Extensions Menu and choose the Manage Extensions option.
    2) From the list of available extensions, choose the python scripting interface extension, then click Install to download the extension and finish to complete the installation.
    3) Close the Manage Extensions window.
    4) Again, click the Extensions menu. This time, choose the Python Interface option.
    5) In the python scripting window, click the read from file button and load the file from whereever you saved it. You will be asked to select which connection you want to clear. Choose your bank, and click OK. You'll get a confirmation message when the connection has been removed. Close the window when done.
    6) Set up the connection to your bank like normal. Since all of your settings have been cleared, you should get the most recent connection information for your bank.

Hopefully, that will work. If it doesn't, let me know and we'll continue troubleshooting.

    No luck.....

When setting up the account, there is no place for a password. It asks
for: Routing Number; Account Number; Customer ID and Account Type.

Secondly, and I don't know if it is important. After running the Remove
one Account as instructed, when I went in to add the account back in,
all of the entries I used last time were still there, with the exception
of the Customer ID which was blank.

After re-adding the account the conditions are still the same.

If you try connecting in a completely new Moneydance file, are you able to log in? You can create a new file using the File->New menu option.

    Hi Ken,

Researching further, it looks like there might be a problem with the Marshland server at the moment. Are you getting an error message when you try to set up the connection using the New Connection button?

    Ian............

I guess I have not been successful in communicating the problem, so let
    me start again.

When I try to add my Checking or Savings account for Marshland FCU, the
program takes me through the steps necessary to add the account(s) (I
have tried both). At the end of the routine, Moneydance gives me a
window that basically says it has everything it needs to connect.

From that point on, NOTHING happens; no errors; no messages; just nothing.

When going to the online menu, the Marshland account selected for update
    is grayed out.

What ever is happening, Moneydance is just ignoring my input.

I can log onto the Marshland web site any time. I can retrieve data
from Marshland with Quicken and Mint without problem.

Also, I don't see how this could possibly work since the initial data
entry for the account has no place for a password.

    What am I missing?

If necessary I can give you the information to set up one of the
accounts and you can try de-bugging it from your end. I can always
change the password on the account after you are finished. There is no
danger to me since you can only look at the account and there is no bill
pay or other way to withdraw from the account.

Could you try disabling encryption on your file, restarting the program, and then re-enabling encryption? It seems like something is off in your file, and this process might clear the issue.

Things continue to deteriorate. I am unable to register Marshaland
Credit Union. After selecting Marshland FCU in the new connection list
of banks, I receive this ERROR:

*Im sorry. An error occurred. JAVAX.net.ssiHandshake Exception: sun
security validation exception: No tursted certificate found.**
    **
**In addition, it appears that all of the user names and passwords from
all my other accounts have "disappeared".*

Also, if you remember, I cannot add Marshland to a new file (which was
    not encrypted).

    Ian...........

After I did this test (mistakenly on my active file) it removed all the
log on credentials from the file. I have been able to restore all of
the connections, except for American Express Card. I even tried
removing the account with the utility ou sent me earlier. When I try to
put the account on-line it goes through all the procedures (including
selection of the card by number); says it has the necessary information,
then comes back with an error indicating there is no communication
between Moneydance and American express. Tried it several times with
identical results. I am able to long onto the account from the browser
and Quicken using the same credentials. Unlike the Marshland problem,
this account shows up for online update. When you run it you get this
    error:

Could be a com or parsing error.
Could be as a result of a network or proxy error of mis-configured server.
Error Description: Java.io.IOexception. HTTP Error 503 Server.

I can't believe that other users have this much trouble with on-line
accounts, so I suspect something is wrong on this end and I am
suspicious that it may be win 8.1. Prior to installation on this
computer (The computer is a Toshiba Laptop with Win8.1. I only have
three other programs installed, since it was new.) it was installed on
another win 8.1 laptop and it experienced the same Marshland problem.

My exercise today is to install it on a win 7 laptop and see what the
    result is.

I was willing to live with the Marshland not working and post it
manually since there us usually only one or two transactions a month.
American Express however is a bigger problem since it is my main credit
    card.

Will let you know later how the Win 7 installation faired.

My main concern now is getting the American Express account to work.

    PART 2

I installed Moneydance on a win7 machine and still was not able to
connect to Marshland Credit Union. Does not seem like an OS problem.

I was, as a test, able to establish an American Express connection and
download transaction using the same credentials I am using on my main
computer. So whatever is screwed up is on this computer. As I said
earlier, removing the account and redoing it does not change the outcome.

On my main computer I can open a new file and create the American
Express account and download transactions. What ever the problem, it is
in my file. How can I export all of my accounts and import them into a
"new" account and re-establish my online connections?

Seems like every step forward ends up two back. I really like this
software and am trying to make it work. Should not be this hard.

    Hi Ken,

If you set up a new account for your AMEX card in your original file, are you able to connect in that account? If so, you can just batch change all of the transactions in the old account to the new account, and then delete the old one.

    Ian........

I fixed the AMEX Problem by adding a new account and transfering the
transactions with Batch as you recommended.

Still have the Mashland Problem however. I really think the problem
lies in the information being requested by the setup routine. Moneydance
never tries to connect to this account. It just accepts the input setup
    data and then does NOTHING.

Again I am able to long on the the Account from the browser and I can
also access the account from my Droid using the Marshland App.

    Thanks.

    Ian and Ken,

To me, it sounds as if a new security certificate is needed for Marshland. The problem almost sounds identical when IK Staff realized that a new security certificate was needed to reconnect me back again to Hilliard Lyons.

    Just a thought. (g)

We've added the security certificate for Marshland (in build 1196), but there is still an error on the connection. It seems like the OFX server is not longer there. It may be the case that they have dropped support for Direct Connect, or it could be that they are having server problems. Specifically, this is the url that is returning an error:

    https://hb.marshlandfcu.coop/ofx/ofx.dll

They'll need to correct this on their end. You should contact them and ask about it. Hopefully, it's just a server problem ad not a removal of the service.

This is the reply I received from Marshland.

    Mr. Weiss,
Marshland Credit Union does not support OFX. However Marshland Credit Union
does support QFX. If you have any other questions or concerns please contact

Unfortunately, it sounds like they must have removed direct connect support in this update. The best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download them from your bank's web site.  You can download into QFX, QIF, OFX or OFC files (sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance. You can also open your bank's download page directly (after entering the appropriate address in the Account->Edit Account menu) by going to the menu bar and selecting Online->Open Account Website.

Sorry for the bad news. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance, and thanks for using Moneydance.
