We may soon be experiencing other sites with OFX access issues (Direct Connect) for Moneydance.

As a former Quicken user dating back to the DOS version in 1982, and a huge fan back then, I lost confidence

in Quicken to fix their problems, that seemed to carry on to each new release. New releases provided new

whizbang features without ever fixing the old problems.

I am now running Moneydance on Windows 10. Support has been much better than what I was previously

experiencing with Quicken. Even though we have this issue with Discover Card, I have absolutely no intention

of going back.

I have confidence that Sean and the staff will resolve this issue in a professional manner, as in the past.

The service provider (aka Intuit/Mint, Yodlee, etc) then have access to your transaction data and accounts and their software (or web site) provides access to that copy of your data.

We won't be doing that, since we don't want to ever possess any customer data. When our solution is ready, all of the data will live in the encrypted data file on your computer and any communication will be directly between your computer and the bank's servers.

And, though I have had very good service from Discovery over the years, if need be, there are good alternative credit card institutions.

avp2tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476202002019-09-25T21:02:16Z2019-09-25T21:02:16ZUnable to download Discovercard transactions

So disappointed in Discover. Other than our Bank's (Lake Michigan Credit Union - LMCU) credit card Discover has been the card I used most. As avp2 pointed out there are other cards out there and perhaps it's time to dump Discover.

I'll call Discover to add my voice to the request for working with MoneyDance and continued support for the QFX download.

I wish more folks could us LMCU so there would be more pressure on them to work with MoneyDance too. They have a killer checking account with 3% interest!

Keep at it Sean and the rest of the MD team. MoneyDance is a far superior product because of the fact that no data is stored by anyone except the user and the bank. I came over from Quicken years ago for various reasons but this is the main reason why I will never go back or switch to other products.

~Dan Ntag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476202002019-09-27T16:59:49Z2019-09-27T16:59:50ZUnable to download Discovercard transactions

I love Moneydance.
I'm using a Chase Freedom Credit Card.
There's no annual fee.
There no monthly fee to connect to Chase's OFX server via Moneydance.
You get 1% back on all purchases.
Participating merchants offer addition % points back.
Quarterly, Chase offers 5% back on particular types of merchants. e.g. restaurants, gas stations, dept. stores.

Thank you for the advice, but when I started having this problem with Discover I searched google for good credit cards to try and I actually got the Chase Freedom Unlimited Card...

I can't get mine to work.. It is saying

The given customer ID or PIN is not valid. For more information, contact your financial institution.

Additional information from the server:
INVALID ID/PASSWORD

It doesn't work. I'm just posting this so that other people won't try this one.

Graytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476202002019-09-28T00:57:44Z2019-09-28T00:57:44ZUnable to download Discovercard transactions

I also sent a note toDiscover by email. I’ll post my message to them below in case someone want’s to put something similar together.

As to good credit cards, you can get a card from Lake Michigan Credit Union, LMCU – lmcu.org (based in West MI) HOWEVER they don’t talk with MoneyDance (yet – I keep bugging them about it). It seems like this is something a lot of the cards are starting to do. Anyway, LMCU has a killer checking account that includes a VISA card. The checking account pays 3% on up to $15,000. It has some requirements but most folks easily meet them if you use a credit card for the majority of your purchases. The toughest one would be direct deposit.

The Max Rewards Visa credit card also pays 3% on gas, 2% on all grocery, restaurant and more. So add that to the 3% on the checking and your getting almost 6% on your money. Check out more at lmcu.org/personal/banking/credit-cards.

But again, one will have to connect to the institution and then download the files and open them with MoneyDance.

Not a great solution but a great deal. Hope that helps someone.

The following is what I sent to Discover. I’m not certain it’s 100% accurate but I think it is and welcome any comments or clarification.

Dear Discover,

I wanted to express my disappointment and surprise at the decision to no longer support the QFX automatic downloads for anyone other than Quicken. As I understand it you have moved to a less secure method where companies like Quicken will supply an OAUTH token (my login and password??) and will then download and store Discover Card users data on their servers to be retrieved. My software, MoneyDance*, by InfiniteKind (infinitekind.com/moneydance) does not and never will possess any customer data and therefore are one of the most secure financial software options available today.

I was a former Quicken user. The requirements to buy their software every two to three years, buggy software and lousy support forced me to look for alternatives. I'm glad it did as MoneyDance support is far superior.

I ask you to please consider working with better companies than Quicken. Better yet, start to support Direct Connect** for more secure transfers of data.

I have often encouraged others to use Discover for it's great perks. My kids all have used Discover for this reason. That said, there are now other credit cards with similar or better benefits. Our bank has one such card which is my primary card, but I held on to my Discover card too. Perhaps it is time to dump my Discover card and consolidate because balancing my Discover card has become a real pain!

Regards,

*The makers of MoneyDance do not store your username and password (like Quicken). That information is only stored locally on your computer. Furthermore, the makers of MoneyDance do not store any of your financial information whatsoever (like Quicken) nor do they make use of any data warehouse of any kind. Again, all of your financial information is stored locally on your computer only.

**Direct Connect actually connects to a dedicated OFX server that is not accessible through standard Internet protocols. Direct Connect is a much more secure method for retrieving financial data.

~Dan Ntag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/476202002019-09-28T01:18:04Z2019-09-28T01:18:54ZUnable to download Discovercard transactions

@Gray,

I can't speak to the Chase Freedom Unlimited Card but the Chase Freedom Card does indeed work with Moneydance.

Chase requires that you authorize your account(s) for desktop apps. (you do so on the Chase website). You'll also need to verify your identity. You should receive an email from Chase with the instructions on how to do so.

Once you've authorized your account(s) and verified your identity, Moneydance will connect to Chase's OFX server.
