Hi John

For repeating transactions like payroll see the Feature Transaction Reminder that can be set to Auto-Commit at https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/reminders-2

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481708922020-03-20T15:13:48Z2020-03-20T15:13:48ZHow to have future bill payments appear in register

Hi Derek,

Thanks - I believe this will addresses one of my two issues.

It's not possible to have future bill pay transactions appear in the transaction register automatically. The reason for this is that transactions only enter the register if you manually enter them, or if they are downloaded from your bank. I'm not aware of any bank that sends out future scheduled transactions in their downloads, since these transactions haven't actually happened. Usually bill pay is a different system than whatever is generating the transaction downloads, so the latter wouldn't even know something is scheduled.

I imagine one could use an autocommitting transaction reminder to create some of these transactions, but that would only be useful for regular payments of a set amount on a regular schedule.

You could also manually enter future transactions after setting them up via bill pay, and then merge them with the downloaded data when it arrives, but I imagine this won't be worth the extra effort.

The fact that with money dance you can click on Online menu item and then click Online Bill Payment option in moneydance you can get a list of pending Bill payment transactions and their status as to pending or processed.

What quicken does is download these future bill payment items when syncing with the bank and I don't see why Moneydance which can see these items from the Online Bill Payment option could not do the same. Expecting the user to take the downloaded info and manually enter this into the register is unnecessary manual work.

Note: on repeating online bill payment transactions these items will be created at the bank and downloaded when sync of account is done in quicken.

I've provided a screenshot of quicken which shows some transactions which were created at the bank and were downloaded to the register in the future as an example of what I am expecting.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear in my last response. I was more trying to explain why Moneydance doesn't do what you're asking for. It would certainly be possible to write something into the program where scheduled bill pay transactions are entered into the register as a future transaction, and then are merged with the OFX download when the transactions are actually made and then appear there. There's actually an existing program suggestion ticket for this feature. I've attached it to this thread to indicate your interest to our developers. If we decide to implement this function in the future, we'll post an update here.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

I now understand that Moneydance does not have this facility which is available in quicken.

I don't see the thread mentioned in the reply - maybe I just am not looking at the right place.

I may take a look at the programming API to see what would be required to have this functionality - if it turns out that adding bill pay transactions in the register manually works like it should (ie entered in the register and transmitted up to the bank) then I can switch to that mode - not sure about repeating bill payment transactions.

If you look to the upper right of this thread, you can see a listing for #5178, which is the relevant suggestion/bug tracking ticket in our internal development system. I don't think there's more for customers to view than that notification. It mostly helps us keep track of the issues that have been raised, and allows us to notify the people who have mentioned them if the changes are implemented.

So I have half of what is available with quicken on the PC version and the mirror image of what is available with quicken on the mac version.

There seems to be no way to enter repeating bill payment transactions - so i'm entering them in at the bank and then adding reminder transactions on money dance. There are extra steps involved in getting this set up and when amounts change or you want to delete the series or change one transaction. Fortunately this is not a normal activity.

The online bill payment facility is much more spartan in terms of what the user sees related to the payees - so sometimes you need to check the account number at the bank to make sure you have the correct payee.

When you click the + button at the bottom the "select payee" dialogue box is behind the "online bill payment" window and is not visible.

I've attached 3 images which shows the progression - one only sees the "select payee" by clicking on the greyed out window or moving it off to the side.

It took me a while to figure out that there was something behind the greyed out window which I needed to interact with.

FYI: when I enter bill payments online at my bank, they are downloaded by MoneyDance and appear in the window when you open the Bill Payment function. In fact, all of the info including Payees that the bank uses to pay bills appears to be downloaded; I don't have to re enter that info to use the Bill Payments feature in MoneyDance. Why not move the transactions over to the register?

jcole01108tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481708922020-07-30T03:23:34Z2020-07-30T03:24:33ZHow to have future bill payments appear in register

Hi There,

I was searching the forum before starting a new thread about Reminders transactions auto-commit not working.

I've been using this feature since many years and all my recurring transactions are set to auto-commit 60 days before occuring. Since software reinstall this spring, my Reminders transactions doesn't auto-commit in any account. I've tried to setup a new reminder and it doesn't show up either.

I wonder if it's the situation that others are talking in this thread?

I'm running 2019.3 (1880) on PC.

Thanks

pplevesquetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481708922020-07-30T06:36:44Z2020-07-30T06:36:45ZHow to have future bill payments appear in register

No, I think yours is a different question!

Go to File → Preferences → Network. Make sure the box Auto-Commit Reminders is ticked.

See attached screen grab.

Hope this fixes your issue

jeff_ltag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481708922020-08-03T04:00:53Z2020-08-03T04:00:54ZHow to have future bill payments appear in register

Hi Jeff,

Very good to hear from you. The suggestion you made fixed the issue.

If I could do a suggestion to development roadmap, I would put a simple
Tooltip over the Auto-commit feature in the Reminder view to let know the
user that "Synced file" feature could lead to auto-commit problems and
suggest to double-check the option under Network on one of the synced
computers (I had none processing Auto-comit).

Thanks and have a great one.

pplevesquetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/481708922020-08-08T16:19:47Z2020-08-08T16:19:47ZHow to have future bill payments appear in register

I think the bottom line on the bank site transactions not appearing in MD, and vice versa, is up to the bank setup. For Wells Fargo and US Bank, the two systems (bank web site and OFX) were not is sync until a payment cleared. Mechanics Bank, however, does sync the two (it takes a day, or two.

In the past (I have been using OFX since the early 90's) the norm was to sync - not so today. My speculation is the rise of 3rd party OFX providers has fueled the change to more separation in the systems - recently, also trouble due to tighter payee editing restrictions.

avp2
