Unfortunately, we've received similar reports from Fifth Third customers in the last few days. They've changed something on their end, which has affected the ability of Moneydance, Quicken, and other programs that use direct OFX servers to connect to them directly. We're trying to work on this, but they seem to be giving their customers the runaround, directing them to contact the software companies when it's clearly something they changed in the last week. I've flagged this conversation, so we'll give you any updates when we have them.

In the meantime, you should still be able to log into your bank's website with your regular web browser to download and import your transactions manually. You can download into QFX, OFX, OFC, or QIF files (sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files), any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance by selecting the downloaded file from the File -> Import menu.

Unfortunately, it seems to be an issue at the bank's end and hopefully they'll be able to fix it soon. That being, our connection specialist is currently working to find a solution, as well.

For the time being, without Direct Connect, you are still able to easily import your data into the program. The best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download files from your bank's web site.

We'd recommend you download using the OFX or QFX file format if available. If not, use the QIF file format. (These files are sometimes referred to as Quicken or MS Money files). You can import the files to Moneydance using File --> Import.
The steps for manually importing your data are outlined in this article from the knowledge base.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to solve this on our end. We're still trying, but the bank is not being forthcoming about what they changed, which also appears to be affecting other similar software like Quicken. Again, we'll post any updates if we have them, and manual downloads should work in the meantime.

I'm still not able to log in to 53. Did you all need to do anything like reset the account? I've tried that as well as disabling it and then setting up the information again and it still does not work. I am able to log in online but not via MoneyDance. I'm getting the following error:

Hmmm, I wonder why mine is not working. maybe someone else will have some insight. Maybe the MD team will chime in about the error message I'm getting.

~Dan Ntag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482217022020-05-17T17:06:30Z2020-05-17T17:06:30ZMoneydance Stopped Downloading Fifth Third Bank Checking Account Transactions

Not sure why your connection isn't working, Dan. I do know that there have been some strange things happening at Fifth Third, with respect to online banking. My mom had issues logging in via the web unless she used an Incognito window in Chrome, and I've had a couple things not work correctly recently.

Everything appears to be working on my end currently, however.

gowansdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/482217022020-05-17T18:06:37Z2020-05-17T18:06:37ZMoneydance Stopped Downloading Fifth Third Bank Checking Account Transactions

We're hearing from most people that this is working again without additional input. Dan N, and anyone else who is still having issues, can you try to recreate your connection with 5/3 to see if that helps?

1) Open your bank account register by clicking on it in the left sidebar in Moneydance
2) Select Online->Setup Online Banking from the menu bar
3) Click the Disable button. If you don't see a disable button, continue to step 5.
4) Select Online->Setup Online Banking from the menu bar (again)
5) Click the New Connection button and select your bank from the list of available institutions that pops up. Hit OK. Make sure you pick the New Connection button, even though your bank is still one of the connection choices after you disable it. Choosing your bank in this way will force Moneydance to reset the connection information, which should then allow you to connect.
6) Continue with the setup process, entering your username/password
7) Repeat steps 1-6 for any additional accounts from this bank

If that doesn't work, please let us know the specific error message you are getting.

To do this, you'll need to force clear the current connection information for your bank in Moneydance. I'm sending a file called 'remove_one_service_2017.py' that will help do that.

Before proceeding, take a manual backup via File --> Export Backup.

To use the .py file, first save it to your computer and then follow these steps:

In Moneydance, select Window --> Python Scripting (Choose 'MoneyBot' if you're using the 2019 version).

In the window that opens, select 'Open Script' then navigate to the .py file wherever you saved it on your system.

Select 'Run' to execute the file.

You will be asked to select which connection you want to clear. Choose your bank, and click OK. You'll get a confirmation message when the connection has been removed. Close the window when done.

Set up the connection to your bank like normal choosing the "New Connection" button. Since all of your settings have been cleared, you should get the most recent connection information for your bank.

Hopefully, that will work. If it doesn't, let me know and we'll continue troubleshooting.
