Hello--

I use Moneydance to do online banking for a non-profit. It's been working fine, until today, when it said I couldn't update further until I purchased a license at $49.99. Figuring it was an annual thing (I took over this job from someone else a few months ago), I bought a new license, but my existing version still won't work (it says it's in "preview" mode). My question--do I need to download a new version of Moneydance? If yes, will that wipe put all of the changes I have made in past months? I have the new and old license numbers...what to do? Please advise.

Sorry for the confusion. Moneydance is not a subscription service. In general, you can use a license key on the version you purchased for as long as you want. The only time the program should ask for a new key is if you have tried to upgrade the version you are using beyond what your key is eligible for.

We have two general options here. One would be to try to figure out your previous purchase information and revert to whatever older version of Moneydance you were using. This would cost nothing, but may take some time, especially if you are new to the job. For this, I would need to know the email or billing address used for the initial purchase.

The other option would be to go ahead with the upgrade. If you want to do that, you should be able to use the key you just purchased. If it doesn't appear to be working, please make sure you are copying and pasting your license key into the field at Help -> Register. This will eliminate the chance of manual entry errors.

The other most common reason for this is that you have an older version of Moneydance installed on your computer. Please go to Help -> Console Window, look at the first line of the output, and verify the exact version you are running. If it is anything other than Moneydance 2019, the easiest way to revolve this would be to install the latest version from http://infinitekind.com/downloads, which will accept your recently purchased license key. If that still doesn't help, please let me know the exact version of Moneydance and operating system you are running.

If you want to go the upgrade route, I can also refund half of your purchase price. Upgrades to newer versions should always be half the retail price.

Thanks for getting back to me. I decided to take the second option, and register with the new key. We have the 2019.3 version of Moneydance, but the original software was registered to our organization in early 2018 (I think), so I'm guessing that Moneydance prompted me for a license purchase because our current version had outstripped the original license key. After registering the new key, it's now working fine, which is a considerable relief.

Yes, if you could reimburse us for half the license purchase, that would be great. You should have our payment information (I paid with it via the organization's debit card), but if you don't, let me know and I will forward it onto you. I'm assuming we're fine until the Moneydance version we're working with outstrips the current license again. If it does happen again, at least I'll know what to do next time, hopefully.

Thanks again for your help!
