does seem concerning - especially as it is not global.

My only suggestion - don't delete either transaction - merge them and see if that helps.

If not, something may be wrong from your bank about the "internal agreement" number not to keep downloading them over and over.

Hopefully customer support can help, but that's my thought.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/485898732020-08-31T03:07:25Z2020-09-09T22:48:44ZDuplicate transactions keep downloading

I'm a fellow user.

If it happens once for each transaction and after you delete the oldest transaction is does not happen again for that transaction suggests that the Bank may have changed something on their systems.

When you use automatic downloads each transaction has a unique transaction ID. This is what Moneydance, and any other financial software programs, uses to prevent duplicates occurring. The ID is recorded in the record and if Moneydance sees the same ID again it knows to discard the newly downloaded transaction.

If the bank changes something on the server that causes these IDs to be reset, then you will see the transactions downloaded into Moneydance again.

If you select the transaction right click on it and select transaction details you may see these IDs and compare them to see if this is possibly the case.

If it is the case Moneydance cannot do anything about this, it would have to be dealt with on a transaction by transaction basis.

if this is not what is happening further investigation will be needed.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/485898732020-09-09T22:28:45Z2020-09-09T22:28:45ZDuplicate transactions keep downloading

1) dtd and dwg, thank you for responding. dtd: Though I don't think it's the solution, I don't know how to merge transactions--e.g., right clicking on a transaction doesn't give a "merge" option.

2) More generally, I've been quiet here because I've been having a "dialog," such as it was, with my credit union (CU) where I'm getting the duplicate transactions.

3) First, more info about the duplicate transactions. The transactions duplicated are the ones most recently downloaded. For example, for one CU account the most recent transaction is "interest earned" as of 31 Aug, and this transaction will be downloaded each time I Download All Accounts. Another CU account is a checking account, and from 2 Sep to 8 Sep, a 2 Sep transaction (the only transaction that date) will download every time I Download All Accounts. Then on 8 Sep there was a new transaction and it continues to download, and the earlier ones do not. Again, CU accounts are the only ones where I have this problem. Downloads from other financial institutions work as expected.

4) The CU--the credit union for the World Bank and International Monetary Fund--has been slow to respond and unhelpful. "They support only Quicken" and suggest I contact MD customer support. When I explained that MD uses the same download protocol as Quicken, I was sent a pdf for Quicken users--generic, with nothing to say about my problem. I've been a member there for ~40 years. "Why?" is a difficult question...

Perhaps an MD rep could advise?

Thanks,

Hi bssmith

The following may or may not give some insight as to why you are getting duplicate. It follows up on dwg post.

I am not in the US so Direct Connect is not an option for me. Like the rest of the world, outside the US I have to download a QFX/OFX file from my on line account.
OFX/QFX files should contain a "Unique Transaction ID" (FITID) for each transaction. Moneydance uses this ID to prevent duplicates.

The following is an extract of one transaction from my credit card downloaded OFX file.

Note the FITID number.

DEBIT
20190806000000

<TRNAMT>-2.90</TRNAMT>
<FITID>20190806000000001</FITID>

<CARD>Visa</CARD>
<MEMO>On S XXXX/2.90 POUND STERLING GREAT BRITAIN</MEMO>

It does not matter how many times you import this file into Moneydance the transaction only appears once.

This is the bit you can use to compare transactions that duplicate with ones that don’t. If the FITID exist in transaction that don’t duplicate but not in transactions that do then that the issue your CU is creating.

If you right click on a transaction imported and select “Show transaction details” it should include the FITID

Note: The QIF file specifications do not include the equivalent to FITID and thus you can get duplicates on importing if transitions already exist in Moneydance.

If you are setting up Moneydance and have imported your initial QIF file and then import a second OFX/QFX file from your bank which contains duplicates these duplicates will appear in Moneydance. If the duplicates were due to an OFX/QFX files import it’s important to delete the QIF file duplicates thus leaving the FITID transaction in tack. This will prevent duplicates on the next OFX/QFX files import.

Hope this is not a wild goose chase.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/485898732020-12-04T15:37:04Z2020-12-04T15:37:04ZDuplicate transactions keep downloading

derekkent23,

Very belatedly, I want to thank you for your detailed reply and let you
know how the problem resolved.

Today, almost three months after your em, I've been able to download
transactions without duplication. I first should admit to being a fierce
procrastinator, willing to put up with annoyances if the solution seems
more effort than the pain solved. So, my solution here was--do nothing.
Rather than attempt to persuade the financial institution that the problem
was their problem, instead I begrudgingly was content to continue to delete
duplicate transactions after downloading.

And so it went. Then, a couple weeks ago, one then another of the accounts
self-cured, with no duplicate downloads. And today, for the first time,
they all have. Hurrah!

Again, I appreciate your efforts, even if I held them only in reserve.
