So I did a reconciliation of the CSV download items and tried to pay attention.

First, "before reconciliation" I got the blue dot, and confirmed them. I do not have any transactions that were brand new without the manual entries, so cannot speak to that.

Then I did a reconciliation and noted there were no transactions selected (I'm used to having them selected for me). I selected the appropriate transactions, hit done, and yes got the green dots.

Thinking about it, if we ever do get OFX back, MD might download duplicate transactions, as I doubt a CSV import puts in the special sauce saying "don't download again", but I could definitely be wrong. But, MD tends to resolve that fairly well.

Hope that helps.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489989742021-02-13T00:08:43Z2021-02-13T00:08:43ZCan't download USAA transactions

FWIW

CSV files do not have transaction ID's only OFX/QFX files have these so if OFX were to come back it would be necessary in bank accounts to follow the confirmation process using the merge option.

Investment accounts do not have a merge option, I have no idea why. So you would probably have to delete the CSV version of the transaction.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489989742021-02-13T00:28:24Z2021-02-13T00:28:24ZCan't download USAA transactions

dwg - That's what I thought, luckily USAA no longer has investment accounts (They sent them all to Schwab, or some subsidiary).

So, WHEN ofx comes back (eternal optimist) it will be a get the same transactions and merge them in.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489989742021-02-13T14:15:35Z2021-02-13T15:23:24ZCan't download USAA transactions

This last week brought up some good work-around ideas for the problem. I'll add another: Use another credit card for most of your transactions, which will lighten the number of entries you need to reconcile there. You can always switch back when things are fixed. This won't help automated monthly charges, but often those may be on the checking side anyway.

I think I'll contact USAA on Monday or Tuesday, escalate to someone who can make decisions, and press for the OFX manual download as well. Maybe we all should. Any recommendations on how to get to such a person after calling in?

I also want to thank all fellow MD/USAAers out on this thread. It's good to know you're not alone in a problem, if the pandemic has taught us anything. I'm using a pretty old version of Moneydance (2014.5), but the OFX files imported OK. Only difference between importing the OFX files and the old download transactions functionality was that the memo lines were all filled out when importing the OFX file whereas the auto downloaded ones never had that data--only the description. And some of my downloaded transactions in the OFX files included transactions that I had already synchronized prior to the 1/27 cutoff so I had to pay careful attention to whether a newly imported transaction was really "new" or not.

gbaileytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489989742021-02-13T23:14:01Z2021-02-14T00:29:57ZCan't download USAA transactions

@gbailey - I had a similar experience - I have successfully downloaded an OFX for checking and credit card using hleofxquotes tool, and there are some anomalies, as you say.
RESPONSE FROM MADDY...
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

Unfortunately, USAA have made a change on their end that seems to have disabled direct OFX connections, which Moneydance and other software requires to directly communicate with their servers. We're working to resolve this, but unfortunately they haven't been that communicative about the issue.

For the time being, the best way to get your transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download files from your bank's web site.
It seems that the only format available for USAA customers is CSV. You can import CSV files into Moneydance using File --> Import, and you'll find the steps outlined in this article from the knowledge base.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here yet, but the CSV Importer extension might be of use.

It provides for separate file readers. e.g. you can create one reader for USAA bank csv files and another for USAA credit card csv files. (assuming that they are different)

It has been my experience that the CSV Importer checks for duplicate txns before importing.

If I'm understanding correctly, it seems like these posts are about importing downloaded USAA transactions into MD. Is anyone else here having trouble with the USAA/MD "download all accounts" online banking connection?

I used an older version of MD until Jan 22, 2021 (when I upgraded to MD 2021) and my transactions are no longer downloading from USAA. Until then, the online banking connection through MD worked perfectly for downloading. I've never tried (or needed to) download from USAA/import.

The 2021 program appears as if it is downloading but there are no new transactions to show (I'm taking the same steps to download, attempting both for "all accounts" and for individual accounts. Moneydance asks me for my pin, shows a status bar at the bottom and says "downloading transactions" - but no new transactions appear once this message/status bar go away).

I've tried all of the options (except changing the pin) that come up when I choose "set up online banking" (disabling the connection, resetting the sync, etc.) but nothing has made a difference.

If anyone is able to help resolve this, I'd appreciate it! Thank you!

Ashleytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489989742021-02-16T22:15:38Z2021-02-16T22:15:38ZCan't download USAA transactions

People are talking about downloading and importing as a result of Direct Connect not working.

For those that use Direct Connect, downloading and importing is really a backup plan if something goes wrong.

Alas this organisation in their wisdom only offers CSV files which are a tad more difficult to work with than the accepted financial formats of OFX/QFX and QIF.

So what you are seeing in the more recent posts is information on how CSV files can be imported, into Moneydance, hopefully as an interim measure.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489989742021-02-17T01:23:14Z2021-02-17T01:23:14ZCan't download USAA transactions

Ashley, you upgrading did not break anything.

On Jan 26, 2021, USAA broke the download (direct connect methodology) - this is a very long thread, and the current discussion is about getting downloads anyway while hoping for USAA to work with Moneydance on a fix.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489989742021-02-17T13:27:00Z2021-02-17T13:27:06ZCan't download USAA transactions

Really upsetting to see that this is still unresolved. Also, my older version of Moneydance (2014) doesn't support importing from a CSV file unless I were to install a extension.

It's possible to download OFX files using tools like "ofxtools", and these files import cleanly, even on older Moneydance versions. I've been doing this for a week or so. But unfortunately at the moment, the process of downloading these OFX files is a bit manual at the moment--hopefully this is what the Moneydance/IK people are working on streamlining.

gbaileytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/489989742021-02-17T21:22:44Z2021-02-17T21:22:45ZCan't download USAA transactions

So...
@gbailey - I do have a feeling that any fix will involve an upgrade. I do not know this, as I am not associated with I/K, but that's my assumption from the little I know.

As to other posters - I agree that there is not enough communication from IK support. It concerns me. Once I found out that USAA was solely at fault, I contacted them and expressed my EXTREME displeasure, both to their tech support AND their customer service people. The customer service people were barely aware of it because they always just transferred complainers to tech support. Tech support was well aware of the situation. If you use USAA, call and specifically complain to CUSTOMER SERVICE - don't let them transfer you to tech support. The more noise we make with USAA, especially if you make it known that this event is enough to make you go elsewhere, the more likely they will straighten things out for non-Quicken services, including Moneydance, and hopefully FIRE the moron that started all this!

It’s been weeks and still unable to export in any format besides CSV and the only option to direct connect is for Quicken. I would like a straight answer from USAA. Are you going to support any other financial software besides Quicken for direct connect? If so, when? If not are you going to support manual exporting in OFX format? If so, when? None of the responses on this forum have said anything useful so far. Just answer these questions so I can either be patient for a resolution or move on to a different bank. I will assume no response is the equivalent of a negative response to my questions.
Thanks for reaching out, @Doc1995. I've asked about this, and while I'm told we are working on a resolution to support other download options, I don't have an ETA to provide you on when that's going to be available. Rest assured, I will forward this feedback to the team that's working on it so they're aware that it's in demand. I appreciate your patience, and trust, in us while we get this worked out for you. - Cathleen

docrobc
