@dtd I came looking at Moneydance as a potential alternative to quicken. Every year I rage against it, vowing to come up with some alternative, and then end up subscribing for another year. The parade of quicken problems over the last 6 weeks and ineptitude on the part of the quicken r&d team made me look early this year. If moneydance doesn't have solid importation of schwab data, though, it isn't for me - at least not now.

Hi Moneydance Support,
Any update on when this is going to be fixed. It has been going on since October, so it is about time to get the problem with downloading from Schwab fixed?
Regards,
Christian

@Christian
Which version and build of Moneydance are you using?
To check, open Moneydance and select Help --> About Moneydance (or Moneydance --> About Moneydance on a Mac) where the version and build number will be displayed.
I suspect you might be trying to connect with an investment account if you are encountering a problem connecting with Moneydance +.
If this is the case, unfortunately at this time, Moneydance+ does not support investment accounts.
We are working with Plaid (the third-party aggregator that our Moneydance+ service uses) to enable this, but we can't speculate on when that will be released. You can find the same information in our blog.
Unfortunately, as you might be aware, Schwab OFX (Direct Connect) downloads are no longer available. Schwab has disconnected this service without a replacement.
We are working to restore a connection through Moneydance+ which was recommended by Schwab as the only way forward due to security concerns on their side.
In conclusion, using Moneydance+ in Moneydance 2022 you can download banking transactions from Schwab accounts, but investment accounts are not yet accessible.

Hi Maddy,
Yes I was hoping for an estimate for when investment accounts might be downloadable again from Schwab.
It is taking way too long .

Christian

Your concern is perfectly understandable but please be reassured that the development team is actively working to get this feature implemented.
We will post any updates relevant to this topic here and in our blog.
Thank you for your patience!

For awareness, Yes you can download banking transactions from Schwab through Plaid into Moneydance. However. there is a DELAY in Plaid with Schwab posted transactions, 2-3 days worth if not more. Its maddening for those of us who reconcile daily.
67 Posted by David Greene on 21 Jan, 2022 10:08 PM
As you know, I gave up and went back to Quicken. I must say, I
didnt like having to use it in virtual windows, but the reconciliation is
'kick a@@'. Update all then, if you want, view reconciliation or just you
can tell what matched/cleared, just by reviewing the register. Back to
Moneydance: Great product, but it became apparent to me, that they don't
have enough Schwab customers to enter a 'fire drill' to get the issues
fixed.

Between my spouse and I, we've got 6 Schwab accounts. Four of them are robo accounts and just logged almost a hundred transactions each last month. I just spent 5 hours manually entering them. Ugh....
I'm purposely holding off on trades since I know I'll have to enter them manually. :(
I never realized how important a working download is until now....
grrr....

Roger,
You may want to try ICreateOFX (https://icreateofx.com/). I've been using it to convert CSVs from Schwab into OFX files that I import into Moneydance, and in the current situation it's worth the $15 to license the software. It will take a couple iterations through your portfolio to get the securities and categories working though it clearly beats manual entry.

FWIW.... I canceled my monedance+ and sighed up for quicken. reconciliation and downloading of transactions is working fantastic for schwab. No lag like with Plaid... I am sad that I have had to abandon MOneydace but at this point I had no other choice.

My turn – between my spouse and I, we have 5 Schwab accounts (you win…)
I entered all entries from Oct 1 – Dec 31 for tax reasons. Holding off on Jan/Feb for now. Yes, it is a pain. Still we’ve been lucky to have direct connect for years – as most of the rest of the world doesn’t have it. Still, it is sad that it is taking 4 months and counting to get investments working again.
I spent a few hours as well in early January on this. Glad at least all my other banks work.

just a user - @jeffw - as I'm sure you know even Quicken had a lot of problems with this Schwab transition, fixing most of the problems by mid December.
I thought that was a long time, (Oct/Nov/Dec), because of course Schwab gives lots of attention to Quicken. That said, I'm glad it is working well for you!
Moneydance got no attention from Schwab other than "find an aggregator". The one concept that MD could get attention was quelled when Schwab declared MD as not eligible for help since they didn't have a U.S. presence.
So, I'm still giving MD a bit of grace, as i also know this issue is pretty much their top priority (getting investment accounts to work via MD+/Plaid). That also said, it is definitely a getting long in the tooth issue (4+ months) given it is supposed to be their top priority.
Just my perspective.

just a user -
As someone who wants my investment accounts downloading again, I have investigated numerous "convert CSV to OFX" programs. There are quite a few, but they convert bank accounts and credit cards only... which doesn't do much for me.
As for icreateofx, the standard program is similar in that it says it can do bank accounts and credit cards. The unique part here is that they also say they have an investment account version.
So I downloaded it, and put it through my normal inspection paces - both of these programs threw a Win32.Malware.Dropper.Heur virus message when I ran them through virscan.org - which suggests they work, but they may install something into a browser. Oh, as you might notice these are windows programs, but i have a virtual machine on my mac, so that wouldn't stop me.
However, the malware dropper bit did stop me, so I haven't tested the investment version - I could create a test virtual machine, but Im in the middle of moving to the new Macbook Pro and I'm having tons of issues with the new Parallels, so haven't done so yet.
Just fyi - I hope BB is doing well with the bank/credit card version.

Hi again,
What is the status of downloading investment transactions from Schwab? When will it be working?
Thanks,
Christian,

Supposed to be working tomorrow March 3 with the new preview release. (It won't work today because there has to be some behind the scenes stuff done that will happen tomorrow)
As always, this is a preview, so I'd strongly recommend initial testing with a backup, and move to your live data only if it works well.
76 Posted by dtd on 02 Mar, 2022 11:01 PM
So, given the newness, don't overwrite your current version of MD. (I tend to name them by the number, so for example, I currently have "Moneydance 4063" installed.)
And honestly, just wait a week or so if you are not used to testing. Quite a few folks here (me also) love to test, but the previews are basically beta products until enough folks say "ok, this is good..."
77 Posted by dtd on 03 Mar, 2022 01:03 AM
ok, i've started testing - DO NOT use 4066 on your live data yet (if you are trying to download investment accounts). Only test on a trial area. I'm sure this will be worked out quickly - as Sean wants this to work well, but there are some issues I've (and I'm just one person) already found.
The good news? It's close.
Support Staff 78 Posted by Sean Reilly on 03 Mar, 2022 01:26 AM
Hi Christian,
I'm currently preparing a preview version of Moneydance which will be able to download banking and investment transactions from Schwab as well as many other banks and brokerages. This update (build 4066) will be available in the next 24 hours from the Moneydance preview download page (https://infinitekind.com/preview). It will require a bit more testing to ensure that the server and app components work properly together, but I am hopeful that this problem is near the end.
Thanks,
Sean

Well, I took the plunge. Across my six Schwab accounts, I got hundreds of historical transactions that all had zero dollar transactions. My account balances were all in negative territory. I deleted all the unconfirmed transactions. Dozens of new securities were created that represent interest or normal deposits. Every transaction was a buyx or a sellx. The # of stock, price, and total cost were all $0. So, it looks like there is still a lot of work to do on the programming.
80 Posted by dtd on 03 Mar, 2022 07:17 PM
All of my transactions also show zero. That's one of things that prompted me to say don't use this on live data at this time.
I've already reported this in the moneydance-beta area.
81 Posted by dtd on 03 Mar, 2022 07:20 PM
Also agree with the buyxfr/sellxfr entries on cash transactions. (I changed them to XFR).
My concern here is that that may be what plaid is sending, and if so - MD tends to say (and I do somewhat agree) that it is not their job to change the OFX file entries. But I do assume Plaid isn't sending 0.00... (at least I hope!)
82 Posted by dtd on 04 Mar, 2022 01:01 AM
4067 does not fix any of this issue. Wait for 4068 or maybe 4069 - they should be coming out within the next week, if past situations like this repeat.
Support Staff 83 Posted by Sean Reilly on 04 Mar, 2022 12:02 PM
Hi All,
Sorry about the zero amount transactions. Plaid is sending the correct information as far as I can tell, but I wasn't translating the Plaid account types into the correct Moneydance types, which resulted in the amounts being translated to zero.
I'm working on the fix for this and will have it out ASAP, which I expect to be within a couple of days.
Thanks,
Sean
84 Posted by dtd on 04 Mar, 2022 08:10 PM
Thanks for the update Sean.
Also, the Plaid security field name ends up in the description and memo fields rather than in the security field itself, so that needs to be changed to map correctly (and it looks like you may have to extract it...)
I also see an issue with shares - as all of the ones I downloaded say 0, but that does appear to be plaid vs. you.
Thanks for working to make it the best it can be.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop on here. As soon as the Schwab problems are resolved, I am kicking this overpriced POS Quicken to curb. I only went Quicken at beginning of year until this Schwab issue is fixed. Quicken is nice 'eye candy' but not reliable....
