I attempted to use the nuclear option in Toolbox and it said the
schwab account did not exist. As a reference, Schwab always updates,
sends me email that all is well and connected, then when Plaid tries to
update MD, I get the following message:

just a user - ok, I'm out of thoughts. As I said, my Schwab connects and works (got a couple of transaction downloads today), so have no idea at this point.

I am resigned to the fact that it is impossible to track your investment activity with MD and Schwab. I am now the King of Plug Transactions. lol MD tried but Plaid is just awful and Schwab is uncooperative. Again, I will never go with Schwab BT Intuit. Intuit is the worst interface I have even seen. Try using their mobile app and makes you want to throw up.

Well, it's not impossible (I can do it at the moment), but I do understand your frustration at trying (and not being able) to make it work for you.

In November Schwab updated their "Consent for Third Party Access" policy and procedure. The developers made a mistake that has created a download problem for Moneydance/Plaid, e.g., accounts missing, transactions not downloading, etc. This is not a Moneydance/Plaid problem, it is a Schwab problem. I have had an open ticket for this issue with Schwab since Thanksgiving and they can't seem to figure it out. I have called back numerous times and was told "the developers are working on it."
When this started in November, I thought the problem was Moneydance so I downloaded Quicken but got the same result. I contacted Schwab and got a call back from a level II tech who said it was a Quicken problem; I contacted Quicken and a level II tech called back and said it was a Schwab problem. The Quicken level II suggested I call Schwab and I was able to conference in a Schwab level II on the same call . There was considerable documentation from my previous calls to the Schwab Level I and Level II techs. I told the Schwab tech I had had the same problem on Moneydance and it wasn't likely tot be just a Quicken problem. The Schwab tech accessed my computer and after some time told me and the Quicken tech, it was a Schwab problem and it had to go back to the developers.
Although I haven't heard back from Schwab, Quicken has a link on this unresolved problem and it is updated regularly. Here is a link https://community.quicken.com/discussion/7920464/new-9-26-22-charles-schwab-missing-transactions#latest. At least this gives me some confidence that it hasn't been been forgotten.

whew - I guess I'm lucky that my accounts continue to work ok, maybe because I no longer have to touch third party permissions - but, "knocks on virtual wood".

I am just a user, and this is not a question, I am just writing about my experience. Perhaps others will find my this useful.
Using Mondeydance+ sometime in the past 15-days Schwab stopped updating for me. I waited patiently (I kept checking these help forums to see if anyone had a similar experience) and it seemed no transactions were coming. PLAID is a blackbox, it is hard to know if the problem is on my end, MD, PLAID, or Schwab. No error was ever reported, just no transaction updates.
Step #1: I tried to relink via the Moneydance + interface. It relinked with no problems but still no new downloads.
Step #2: I disconnected the account within the Moneydance+ interface. I dreaded doing this: I dread the no name account error, the downloading of tons of duplicate transactions, etc...
Step #3: I reconnected via the Moneydance+ interface. Within PLAID I had to accept a third party agreement from Schwab dated 1/13/2023, the date supports that this was the root of the problem. But who knows.
Step #4: Everything I dreaded happened, I expect that I did something less than ideal, but **Schwab appears to be fixed** for me.
a) I got the "no name" account errors within the Moneydance+ interface. I used the Toolbox and the refresh button eventually it went away.
b) Schwab downloaded EVERYTHING, it did not asked me for the date I wanted. So I had to go back and delete what was duplicated. I hate that.
Anyway, Schwab downloaded all the transactions that had not been downloaded. Why? Was it the Third Party Agreement? Did the connection expire without error? Will I need to do this again? Who knows. I like the days of direct connections: at least the error was either with the institution or Moneydance.
Hopefully this helps someone else.

Thats awful. I went thru this with Schwab when they had issue last time. I think I will just quit using MD for investment tracking and use if for cashflow only and for Schwab checking account just download CSV files. I am just not interested in trying to sync up and delete duplicate transactions again. Very depressing, but thanks for documenting this.
129 Posted by David L Greene on 20 Jan, 2023 04:58 PM
so I tried disconnecting the one account with plaid but that did not work. Showed disconnect but would not reconnect. Did you completely leave MD+/Plaid and then reset up MD+/Plaid?
130 Posted by NWG on 20 Jan, 2023 05:44 PM
@David L Greene
The only thing I reset fresh was the Schwab link in MD+/Plaid. I have many accounts linked via MD+/Plaid, and so far the Schwab one is the only one that mysteriously stopped receiving updates. Sorry, I do not remember if I left the MD+ interface, I think the more specific actions I remember were:
1) In MD+ disconnected just the Schwab one,
2) refreshed within the MD+ interface (got the "no name" account error, which I ignored at that point) to make sure Schwab wasn't still listed
3) used the "Connect More Accounts" button within MD+ interface
4) My browser took me to Plaid, where I searched for Schwab and clicked on that
5) Plaid asked me to log in to Schwab via their interface
6) Got the Schwab third party agreement
etc...
At that point it was like setting up Schwab for the first time. Ultimately, despite the annoyance, it downloaded all of the recent transactions that had been backlogged (plus a ton of duplicates that I didn't want)
131 Posted by David L Greene on 20 Jan, 2023 05:48 PM
Thats exactly what I did. I got the schwab email saying linked but MD would not update properly. MD said it was a Plaid issue with Schwab, but it worked for you. Frustrated here. Even had an MD tech help me on my mac.
132 Posted by dtd on 20 Jan, 2023 07:49 PM
just a user
@NWG - your description of events sounds very accurate to me given the current state of how MD+ works (or doesnt) - many of us have been waiting for the first 2022.6 preview that is supposed to fix some of the bugginess (like no name)
The only thing I'm wondering about is - when you blew Schwab totally away and recreated it - didn't the first download ask from which date you want to start from? MD is supposed to ask that for new accounts (which this now should be) and let you pick the first sync date.
If it didn't ask - that is a concern, but you could go and reset sync date to "not run yet" - maybe even in blowing away the schwab account, the last sync date is still maintained? I don't know the answer, as there are many things not quite right in MD+, but there is at least the concept of setting the sync date to a more recent date versus "getting everything" (and schwab holds 12-18 months).
133 Posted by Christian Skiel... on 31 Jan, 2023 06:58 PM
Downloading seems to be working for me after I went to the "setup MD+" menu in Moneydance and relinked. However, every time I open Moneydance it gives me a reminder that subscription has expired and need to be relinked.=, even though the treansactions download.
Verystrange;

Try the toolbox advanced force md+ name cache rebuild option.
135 Posted by David L Greene on 31 Jan, 2023 08:58 PM
Glad to see this is working for someone. I cannot get Schwab to link with other banks, direct, using Plaid. Frustrating...
136 Posted by terrynorbury on 06 Feb, 2023 07:52 PM
I have reconnected Schwab with Plaid many times. Still have not gotten any brokerage transactions downloaded since early Feb 23. Credit cards work. Using Mac 13.2, MD 2022.6 up to date. Using toolbox seems over my head.
MD+ worked in Dec 22, early Jan 23.
137 Posted by dtd on 06 Feb, 2023 08:17 PM
just a user - if by Feb 23, you mean Feb 1, 2023 - there is often a 2-7 day delay in posting new transactions (up to 7 is rare - more around holidays for that.
I'm not saying this is the issue, but often just another day's wait will yield the download.
That said, Toolbox often will reset things and help things to work if the account is "stuck".
138 Posted by dtd on 06 Feb, 2023 08:18 PM
just a user - also, are you using 2022.6(4097) [last weeks release]. The primary release reason was to fix some MD+ problems.
139 Posted by terrynorbury on 06 Feb, 2023 09:11 PM
Yes. Using 4097
But I get repeat notices when using MD that the Schwab connections need to be updated (done several times in the last week - to no avail) and another :
Even with the 2-7 days, there would have been some mid Jan 23 transactions to include.
From reading through the string it looks like Schwab has yet to respond to your issue?
Thanks for your help on this.

just a user - ok, that does look like a problem, but it could be on Schwab's side given they are reporting no accounts, and it was working as of 3 weeks ago.
Given 3 weeks, it will probably not fix itself - you may need to blow Schwab away in MD+ and reestablish it, but you might get the same problem arising. If that's the case you may need to call Schwab - but I doubt you would get very far.
I was going to ask if you were having the "third party permission" problem, but you may want to review this message. [I don't have this problem, Schwab is working ok for me]

I am amazed it works for you.. I think the Schwab to Plaid interface is broken, as Schwab reports the update but nothing updates. I think it is Schwab. I recently tried to transfer money to and from Schwab involving web-only transactions, using Plaid, for Venmo and PNC Bank, and neither worked. I got same message I get when I try to setup MD+. Schwab sucks!!! I have recently opened up Fidelity account and it works fine. Getting ready to take the trash (Schwab) out over time.

Thanks again. I imagine that Quicken will get an answer sooner than MD.

@Terry - probably correct that Quicken will get an answer sooner than MD, but it is disheartening that the Quicken thread started last September, 2022.
@David - as I think I mentioned before, I think I sidestepped the third party permissions problem (knock on wood), but I think messages 125/127/130 by JWA/NWG are pertinent. It does appear to be a Schwab problem, and getting Plaid to work properly with Schwab is the "tricky wicket".
If I were in this situation, I'd go to the Schwab website and find their website 3rd party permissions page, and make sure those are set properly, and that they haven't expired.
Doesn't mean everything will be ok, just striking off one potential issue (no permissions).
I'd then make sure I had 2022.6(4097) of MD, as that was released specifically to address some MD+/Plaid issues (work the potential answer both ways). Then I'd blow Schwab away in MD+ entirely using the Toolbox and set it up again as stated in 127/130. It should at least work better than before Jan 28.
BEFORE trying to download, I'd reset the sync date to a date before it stopped working, but so as not to get up to 18 months worth. The sync date for a new account is supposed to prompt you for a sync date, so not sure what is going on there.
Just some thoughts as I've diagnosed other account issues with MD+ - but ultimately Schwab needs to fix their interface - and mine is only working because I managed to somehow sidestep the issue (again, knock on wood)
145 Posted by dtd on 06 Feb, 2023 10:42 PM
You made me look - last Schwab transactions for me were 02/02/2023... so still working and knocking on wood.
146 Posted by David L Greene on 06 Feb, 2023 10:46 PM
You are living a 'charmed life'. All my other accounts have over 10 years of great history, using MD. Starting in late 2020, Schwab made my life a living........
147 Posted by dtd on 06 Feb, 2023 10:48 PM
true - first it was Schwab cutting off direct downloads, and Sean making it work again after a month or two... Schwab then cut MD off again a year later, before MD+ was ready to go. Then when it was ready to go - no investment accounts.
Now investment accounts, if and when they work.

I am so glad I have everything working great with Moneydance and my Mac. I have been using MD for well over 10 years and absolutely love it. I am hopeful the company is doing well. Given the value of the product, I am hopeful it will continue for years to come but I have no knowledge of it . Is it a public or private company and where is it based? And, any incite as to its overall health greatly appreciated. I want it to succeed as it is my ‘go to’ resource for my personal financial health.
Thanks

The Infinite Kind (Moneydance) is a private company domiciled in the U.K. The product was first released at the very end of the 1990's.
