Merging Moneydance+ downloads adds junk in the memo field

Downloading account entries using Moneydance+ allows one to merge the downloaded entry with a same entry already entered. However it also populates a blank memo field with junk (usually just a redundant repetition of the payee) which I then have to remove.
How can I stop this problem from happening, surely others must also find it very inconvenient.

Try Extensions, Find and Replace. There's a place in there that allows changes to the memo field. I suggest make a backup before updating data.

Also download toolbox extension, note the Toolbox:Zap (or swap) md+/ofx/qif memo fields option at the bottom.

You are probably interested in the MD+ options area, but as this was developed, many realized that there were duplicates in many transactions (especially in Description/Memo) and with multiple years of data, a lot could get cleaned (beyond MD+).

As you can imagine, this is a very powerful tool that can change a LOT in a moment. So it does have an undo feature if you really mess up.

Still, even with undo, I'd make a backup immediately before using this until you look over the many options available and learn what does what in eliminating things like this - which is why the first button is "Analyse", giving you an overview of what would be changed if you actually zap.

At first, you will be playing/figuring out all the check boxes, but once you get it - you know what you want done - then (for me), I just use this tool about 2-3 times a month, and ZAP the junk is gone.

As always be careful with a new tool until you get the hang of it.

Thank you, that looks to be the best option, however I still do not understand why I have to fix junk added by Moneydance+. There should be an option to ignore the junk, not download it.
