Very slow after upgrade to Version 2024.2 (5172)
Hi,
I've just installed the latest version 2024.2 (5172) and the program has become very slow. With the previous version input was smooth and instantaneous, but now it can take several seconds to respond to a mouse click or a typed character. It took ~1 minute for the 'Done' button to respond after completing a reconciliation. How do I resolve this?
Thanks

None of the testers reported any performance issues.
Perhaps start by posting your Moneydance error log errlog.txt and we can see if that gives us any pointers.

Also upgrade all extensions.
Also, try turning off iCloud sync (if you were using it) as a test.
But the error log is needed for review.

Please find the attached errlog.txt file. However, I notice it only covers
today's date, and the problem occurred yesterday.
I'm not using iCloud sync or any extensions.
Today the program is responsive when making single entries. The problem
occurred yesterday during the reconciliation of two accounts. I'm now up to
date with reconciliations for a few weeks so may not encounter the problem
again for a while, if at all. If I do have a problem, I'll capture the
errlog.txt file immediately and report back.

No issues in the log
If it happens again, grab. new log....

I agree, there's nothing obvious in the log. If it happens again, try to get a log from when the problem is occurring, and we'll see what's there.

Hi Ethan,
The problem just occurred again - very laggy transaction input. Please find the errlog.txt file as it was just after I exited Moneydance, not that I can see an obvious problem with it.
This doesn't occur when typing in Excel or Word for example. There's plenty of memory and hard disk space available.
Best,
Paul

You're right.. Nothing nasty in the log... I think you need IK support to dial in to your session to see for themselves...

Popping in here to say: Me too.
It only happens from time to time, but when it does, Moneydance gets very sluggish, just as OP described. This only happens with the latest update; the prior version (and all prior versions) were fine. (And I've been using Moneydance for almost 15 years and have never had this problem before).
I have found that sometimes quitting moneydance and restarting alleviates the problem, but other times, only a full reboot seems to fix it. My laptop is working fine otherwise; it's a relatively new laptop with ample CPU, RAM, etc. No other applications are exhibiting this problem.

Grab / send help/console
Update extensions.
Try switching from iCloud sync to Dropbox folders sync.

I've been faced with this issue as well - ever since upgrading to 2024.2 (5172).
Is there a way to go back to the previous version - not 2023.x - just to the previous version before 2024.2 (5172)?
Thanks.

The Infinite Kind's archive only has stable releases.

I have the same problem with 2024.2 5172. It's so slow on Windows that I'm having to enter transactions using the Android app. An Investment Performance report takes several minutes, instead of a couple of seconds.
I don't know how to generate an error log - Can I revert to the previous version?

Hi stuart.
First under EXPANSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION remove all Extension.
Now see if things are faster.
If they are reinstall the Extensions you use one at a time, and check speed after each install.
If that does not help close and reopen Moneydance then click HELP – CONSOLE WINDOW.
Perform some actions that are slow and then in the console window use SAVE to create a file and then post that file.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the prompt responses.
I've just run an Investment performance report, which took 5m 35s to appear. It is a detailed report but for years it appeared in just a few seconds.
The error log is attached - I hope it helps.

You have a corrupt mobile sync file.. Try finding and deleting this file:
Then restart MD and try again

#15: Stuart Beesley, you're spot on. I deleted the offending file and everything is now working as it should. Many thanks to all three who helped: I'm much impressed by the speed and quality of the support.

PS - you get a star for finding the file (as I didn't give any directions) well done!

Hi everyone,
I was having the same issue after upgrading to 2024.2 (Windows version). The app became practically unusable. Simply clicking between accounts or clicking on "Summary" (top-left) to go to the main dashboard from inside an account register was taking 7-10 seconds. I started the console viewer, but it was useless. Even though the UI was very slow, in the end the console would spit out a couple of lines with 0.0047 seconds or some other nonsense like that (which tells me that some of the logging is not done correctly). Anyway, I uninstalled 2024.2 and re-installed 2024.1 (thankfully, I kept it) and everything is back to normal, which leads me to believe that it's not my file, it's the app. So, if anyone else is having this problem, just get rid of this buggy version and go back to the previous one.

Hi Steve
Just as feedback.
As new builds of 2024 become available I upgrade so have run most builds of 2024.2 on Windows 10 and 11 as well as Linux Feren OS and have not seen the issue you describe. I am currently running 2024.3(5201).
I would suggest you check that all extensions are up to date. If that does not help remove all Extensions and see it things speed up. If that helps install the ones you need one by one.
If you still have problems close and reopen Moneydance check things are still slow and Save the log and post under HELP – CONSOLE WINDOW.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for the quick response. I probably should've mentioned in my original post that I don't have any Extensions installed (my "Installed" tab in "Manage Extensions" dialog box is empty). Since 2024.1 is working fine for me, I'll probably just stick with it for now and wait for a much later version (frankly, I didn't see any improvements in 2024.2 that mattered to me and 2024.1 is more than enough for my needs).
Regards,
S.

I am having this same problem. I disabled iCloud syncing and the application immediately became as responsive as it should be. Re-enabling iCloud syncing and the app immediately becomes VERY laggy.
@Stuart Beesly, how did you determine the other user's offending file?
I don't see anything in the console that seems related, but I do see a few instances of this:
(I do not have MD+ enabled.)
23 Posted by James Sumners on 31 Dec, 2024 12:22 PM
Well this seems excessive:
I removed all of those, re-enabled syncing, and things seem to be working normally.
24 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 31 Dec, 2024 01:03 PM
I would switch to Dropbox Folders sync method...
25 Posted by James Sumners on 31 Dec, 2024 03:03 PM
Dropbox has become very slow and unreliable for Monedance syncing. I was using it since the introduction of the feature until earlier this year (last year (2023)?).
26 Posted by Stuart Beesley ... on 31 Dec, 2024 03:29 PM
Unreliable? Do you mean Dropbox connection, or Dropbox folders was unreliable? I have never had an issue with Dropbox folders.
27 Posted by James Sumners on 31 Dec, 2024 05:53 PM
Difficult to recall the exact problems, but basically transactions would be missing until I forced syncs in some sort of way(s).
28 Posted by Lisa Ferries on 31 Dec, 2024 07:45 PM
This is happening to me too, input can take more than a minute, iCloud sync is turned off, I have no extensions, I am on a Mac OS Sequoia 15.1.1
