Is there a way to Fix or Rebuild MD files?

I've been using MD for a number of years but I have been having problems recently. The problems include popup/previews from MD that don't clear, trouble entering dates and incorrect data about budgets. The budget manager correctly shows all of the past and present budgets but the left pane budget tab only shows 2

This data is really important to me. I wonder if there is a tool that can validate and/or fix file problems

    What version of MD?

    Grab/upload menu. Help. Show console output.

    I am using 2024.4 (5253)

    What would you like to see in the console? I'll grab a screenshot of the budget problem and try to get aa shot of the console when the next random error occurs

    What we are looking for is for you to use Moneydance as per normal, encounter the problems, then we look at the console data to see if it provides any insights.

    If you have a look at the Moneydance console - Help => Show console, you will see a save button that you can use, once you have experienced the problems of course. You can leave the console open while using the program.

    The Sidebar has its own configuration, if you click on the "+" sign at the bottom of the bar you can choose other items to add to it.

    Thank you .I really appreciate the replies. I will do that when it occurs again. I was definitely doing some unusual/infrequent things today when all of this happened.

    Back to my original question, is there some kind of file validation process available? I may be remembering something from a previous product but I would love some piece of mind that there's no data corruption.

    You can install the Toolbox extension and it will perform some basic checks on each start.

    It also has various options that you can run on demand to perform some further checks.

    It is now happening with the reports on the sidebar. The screenshot clearly shows the sidebar with the missing reports and the memorized reports list from the ribbon that has the correct list.

    So far, I have only noticed missing reports and budgets but I don't feel confident that that's the extent of it.

    Is there some kind of a limit to the number of items in the sidebar? And just to be clear, these reports and budgets were in the sidebar until recently.

    I have attached the screenshot and the console log

    I'm just going to load the missing items back into the sidebar and see if it happens again.

    Report going missing from the sidebar for no apparent reason has been seen before, I do not believe the "why" has ever been established. The reports are always still there just not displayed in the list.

    Thank you. I did add them back and so far, so good. I was somewhat alarmed as I have a big investment in this data and I had 3 (now 4) unusual things happen in 1 day hence my concern about some kind of corruption.

    I'm going to keep an eye on this and I will update if there is something new happening or I discover a cause

    Also, I added the toolbox and it didn't find anything unusual.

    Did you recently upgrade? And did the sidebar items disappear when you upgraded?

    Do this. Toolbox, analyse dataset and objects. Upload that output here.

    No, I haven't had an upgrade available in many months. I always upgrade to the latest version and I have a current license.

    From that data, the only thing I would be asking is if drive "S" is a partition on a local disk.

    Locating the Moneydance account set on anything other than a local disk can lead to problems.

    It's a Veracrypt partition. I have been using it and its predecessor, truecrypt, for 15+ years to store sensitive data

    That should not be a problem, it is network type drives that can cause issues.

    I can only suggest

    a) use toolbox. Update mode. Advanced menu. Shrink dataset (1 days).

    b) ensure MD is properly closing when shut down.

    Thank you. I have done this. After 12 years it looks like there was lots of cruft in the dataset

    I appreciate your support. I haven't noticed this toolbox extension before. It looks very comprehensive
