I seem to have lost the last 10 years of data. Please help!

Moneydance just opened with a blank set of data and seems to have created a new "Personal Finances NEW.moneydance" file...(the old one was called "Personal Finances" with none of the data i previously had.

i have looked for backups from a few days ago, but i can't find any trace of a back up that contains all the recent data (only very old files from 2015).
I do see a "Personal Finances.moneydance" file from Nov 2 but it's a CSV file, and moneydance doesn't show it as an option either to open with or to import from.

Can any let me know either whether there might be a back up file, or how to retrieve the data from the CSV file which might have the data i'm looking for?

Thanks
PWi

Also i have checked preferences to see where the back up files are. it says the back is done once a day and gives a file path in the form of /users/pascal/library/....... i can see a /users/pascal folder but no "library" folder under pascal. so the backup folder seems to be missing.

    Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've encountered.

Open Moneydance and select File > Open. If you see multiple data files listed here, select each one to open it and check the file contents for your missing accounts.

The library folder you are looking for is a hidden folder, so it can be tricky to locate it via Finder. Open Finder and select Go > Go to Folder, then copy and paste in exactly the following:

    ~/Library

This will pull up your local Library folder, and you can navigate to the required location.

However, you can follow the steps below to more easily access your backups -

Open Moneydance and select Help > Show Backup Folder. This will open a new window containing your .moneydancearchive backup files. Look for a backup file dated just before these problems started, then double-click the file to restore your data into the program.
