Fidelity CSV import settings for investment accounts
I am looking for a work around since Fidelity stopped the ability to import. I can download a csv file from Fidelity but I cannot import it to the investment account because the fields do not match.
Has anyone found a solution?

Just a user,
There are several CSV to OFX converters around and I'm trying out the IcreateOFX Investment tool. But it has some quirks i can't resolve. Still looking. I do think an expanded version of the CSV import extension could possibly work if you could select the additional investment fields.

@mhoggie, I've been testing the IcreateOFX Investment tool with the Fidelity CSV files too and also found some quirks, but none I couldn't work around or resolve. The biggest one I found was the share price and share quantity were reversed from what the Fidelity script was expecting, so I had to manually edit the CSV file to make those what the script was expecting. The numbers came out right after I did that. What were the quirks you couldn't resolve?

just a user,
Interesting ppinocci, My stock price, quantity, and amount imported fine.
I had 2 issues. First of all had to create a Security CSV file and import it. Making changes on the Security screen didn't work, but did once I imported the securities. Also the software script showed cash transfers as "Cash Register" instead of Cash Withdrawal or Cash Deposit. The Cash Register action caused the amount to just appear as a zero in MD, but when I changed it to Cash Withdrawal or Deposit the amount showed up correctly. It seems like the IcreateOFX script just treated all Cash transfers in that manner. But now that I'm aware of that, I can make a few changes to fix it.

mhoggie, I imported my securities, I didn't have to make changes on the Security screen, so I didn't have any issues there. And I don't even see Cash Register in the drop-down of Actions. The only Cash actions I see in the Action drop-down are Cash Deposit, Cash Withdrawal, Cash Interest Paid and Cash Interest Received. But I had to manually choose the Action the first time anyway. Concerning the share price and share quantity, I pasted a line from my CSV below, which was for a purchase of 28000 shares of FCNTX at $25 a share. You can see that even though the header shows Quantity,Price in that order, the actual data line is Price (25),Quantity(28000). I wonder if the site is messing up the order of those for mutual fund buys/sells but not for stock buys/sells. The other thing that bothered me was that the script is putting the Security Description (FIDELITY CONTRAFUND) into the Memo, which gets imported into the transaction Description and Memo in Moneydance. The script should really be putting the Action (YOU BOUGHT PROSPECTUS UNDER SEPARATE COVER FIDELITY CONTRAFUND (FCNTX) (Cash)" into the Memo, which is how that same transaction appeared in the transaction Description and Memo in Moneydance when I had downloaded it via Direct Connect (the transaction took place before Fidelity killed direct connect). So in my test of converting that transaction via CSV into a test account in Moneydance, I manually updated the Memo in the grid before I produced the OFX file, so it would look the same. Out of curiosity, what version of the IcreateOFX Investment tool and Fidelity Investment script do you have installed? I have version 2.0.3.7 of the tool and version 1.0.0.2 of the Fidelity Investment script installed. Initially version 1.0.0.1 of the Fidelity Investment script was installed, but it showed version 1.0.0.2 was available, so I updated it before doing my testing.

I emailed iCreateOFX support (email address at their web site) with my issues and questions. They promptly replied. I pasted their reply below, if anyone is interested. Once I followed their suggestions of installing the latest version 2.0.4.4 of the app using the F12 key and using the Fidelity US script instead of the Fidelity Investments script, things worked much better. So if you are inclined to try and use the iCreateOFX Investment tool, until a better solution comes along, be sure to use the latest version of the app and the correct script.
Thanks for you email. I'll try and respond to the point you raise as best I can below.
1. The latest version of the app is 2.0.4.4. You can update to the latest version by starting the app and pressing the F12 key.
2. As for the script version, there are actually 2 scripts for Fidelity, being Fidelity Investments (latest version 1.0.0.2) and Fidelity US (latest version 1.0.0.3). The script version shipped with the app can differ as updates to scripts can (and is done) independently of app updates. Furthermore, the script update process completes successfully in the background if the app displays the version installed.
3. Looking at the sample header you provided, it is closer to the Fidelity US script than the Fidelity Investments script, so I'd suggest that you try the former with your CSV download.
Just to add, we welcome sample files to add support for brokerages. As a general guide, we suggest that you should only edit a downloaded file from your brokerage using a text editor and not a spreadsheet. Only change personally identifying information as we need to determine date formats etc that are used when adding support for a file.
Where files are complicated (or where multiple files are required to produce a single file), we publish help documentation, however for the Fidelity scripts (as with the majority of scripts) there is no documentation as the files have been straight forward. That being said, both scripts were published a while ago and I have no doubt that the file layouts could have changed since. If you are willing to provide samples, changes to what appears in the memo can be worked on.
I hope that answers all you queries, if not please feel free to re-highlight them and look forward to your response.
Kind regards

just a user,
I now see your added comment before I sent this. I'm going to try the 2.0.4.4 version.
Previously I was writing below which confirms the different outcomes we were having.:
I have 2.0.3.7 on the app and 1.0.0.3 of the Fidelity US script.
I'm guessing you are using the Fidelity Investment script which is version 1.0.0.2
When I use the Fidelity Investment script, I get errors on the 3 transfer transactions which work OK for the other transactions. The errors will not allow those transfers to show up on my OFX file. The 3 transfer transactions are the ones that have the "Cash Register" issue. I can live with that because I can change them to Cash Withdrawal before exporting to OFX.
Here is one of the troublesome transfer examples that I'm dealing with.
CSV
11/11/2025,"TRANSFERRED TO VS 219-XXXXXX-1 (Cash)", ,"No Description",Cash,,0.000,,,,-500,3038.05,
iCreateOFX error using the Fidelity Investment script
Err processing Mutual Funds:
Error adding TRANSFER, line No: 26, MSG: Error adding SECID for: Null Ticker, line No: 26, MSG: , MSG: Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid.
Also one account is a managed account and the management fee is one of the errors.
The Fidelity US script works for me except for the Cash Register Action which I can work around by changing the Cash Register Action to Cash Withdrawal
I suppose I could send my CSV file to the app developer to tweak the script, but I'm going to wait for a while to see what other issues develop.

Interesting. When I create a CSV containing your troublesome line and run it through the Fidelity US script (NOT the Fidelity Investment script), it converts it to a Journal Cash action. Not sure how that would import into Moneydance but most likely not as a Withdrawal. Still strange that I don't even see a Cash Register action in the action drop-down. It will be interesting to see if you get any different results using the latest app version. But no matter what, it definitely looks like the Fidelity US script should be used for our purpose, not the Fidelity Investment script. I've removed it from the Script Stack.

just a user,
The 2.0.4.4 issues didn't fix my Cash Register (correction Cash Journal issue), but the app seems to work quicker and it still allows for me to type a C in the Action box for the Cash Journal issue and gives me a drop down to change it to Cash Withdrawal.
With the quick response you got, i'm going to wait until my next batch of activities and transfers and send them my file to see if the can give me an option to nail the transfer down.
