opening Moneydance
I can open Moneydance from an icon on my desktop. I cannot open it from the application. It tells me the address is wrong.

Hi Raymond,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
When you open Moneydance from the desktop icon, you’re launching the actual app.
When you try to open it from Applications, macOS is likely pointing to an old, moved, or broken alias, which is why it says the address is wrong.
You could drag the working Moneydance app (the one your desktop icon points to) into the Applications folder.
Try launching it again from Applications.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

Do you have iCloud syncing turned on for your Documents folder? Apple seems very aggressive in enabling this feature which can remove files from your computer but make it appear as though they are still there in the Finder. This can really compromise Moneydance and your data.
Another possibility is that the permissions on the file have changed somehow. This could be on the...personal.moneydance "folder", the key file, or any other files under that folder. Would it be possible to check the permissions on the key file and the folder by selecting them in the finder and pressing
⌘ I?Finally, I'd strongly suggest storing the file in Moneydance's internal sandbox folder. These days it's the only place on the mac where we can be confident that the file won't be damaged by other processes. I share your desire to want the file in a visible place such as your Documents folder, but unfortunately that's turned out to not be very safe. You can open the internal sandbox documents folder using the Help->Show Documents Folder in Moneydance. Then, close Moneydance before moving the file into it. You should then be able to create an alias in the Finder to the data file in the sandbox folder. In addition you can always set an outside-the-sandbox location for storing backup files. Many others use that feature to keep timestamped copies of your data file in Dropbox, iCloud or some other synced location.
Side note: You could try doing the following:
From the welcome screen create a new dataset with a dummy name and then drag and drop the dataset from finder/explorer onto the open Moneydance app window.
OR
Right click the file in finder/explorer and open with Moneydance.
Please keep us posted on your progress, Thank you!
