This will put a version of the JVM in the Moneydance folder rather than use the system wide JVM. I haven't yet got around to updating my ubuntu 10.04 machine to 10.10. I plan to in the next week or so and will figure out what is going on with the java installation then.

I hope you're able to reproduce the problem and find a solution.

I have spoken with the lead developer on this point and he suspects that at some point you may have updated from a fairly old version of moneydance by downloading the latest .jar file. This would have resulted in an incompatibility with an old graphing jar file.

Could you try completely removing your Moneydance directory and downloading and installing a fresh installation.

Sorry, but this is a virgin installation of Maverick Meerkat on a brand
new HP Pavilion laptop. I have never had Moneydance installed before
except for my initial attempt which prompted this help request.

When you had me install the package with java, I completely deleted the
old directory, including the hidden ".Moneydance" directory.

If it means anything, the laptop has 4GB of memory and is using a dual
2.2 GHz processor.

Thanks,

I am curious, you say you are starting "Moneydance.jar with JRE". How exactly are you starting the program? Are you entering a command? If so what is it? All you need to do to start Moneydance is run the script "Moneydance" in the Moneydance directory. You do not need to directly interact with the file moneydance.jar.

Ben

Ben Spencertag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/34436772010-10-23T23:52:57Z2010-10-23T23:52:57ZMoneydance will not open past initial account creation page

LOL, that did it! I get the idiot award. I briefly looked at the
script and thought it was a java install script, so I started
moneydance.jar with JRE.

Problem solved! I owe ya lots of beer!

Glad to hear it. Don't worry about the beer. :-)
