It should work.

The QIF file importer has been rewritten for Moneydance 2019 and we have been seeing a number of problems with it. The result you are getting appears to be a variation of a particular problem that results in data being assigned to the wrong Account or category..

My understanding is that the problems with the importer are being worked on, we have seen a number of updates but not all problems have as yet been resolved.

EDIT: I have placed a pointer to this discussion for the developer.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/470718552019-03-14T11:32:35Z2019-03-14T11:32:35ZImporting QIF file

How refreshingly honest.

I eagerly await updates, and am happy to test beta versions if that's of
any use to you.

I'm also available for code review or other consulting, though I expect
beta test is more likely useful.

The importer in Moneydance 2017 worked well, although it was pretty common for Users to select the wrong settings during import, something I expect the developers were hoping to resolve in Moneydance 2019.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/470718552019-03-28T01:55:06Z2019-03-28T01:55:06ZImporting QIF file

Huh. I just now reread this and looked, and it's the 2017 version of MoneyDance that I'm using (2017.7.1 (1671), to be exact).

rcooktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/470718552019-03-28T02:01:02Z2019-03-28T02:01:02ZImporting QIF file

I'm a fellow user.

It would be wise to upgrade to the latest 2017 release - 2017.10

http://infinitekind.com/download_2017

and retry the import.

If there are problems document them. I do not see any obvious issues with the QIF data you previously provided, the data indicates you should specify a M/D/Y format or you will have some problems.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/470718552020-04-18T21:52:26Z2020-04-18T21:52:26ZImporting QIF file

I'm finally getting back to this.

I did upgrade to the 2019.10 version of Moneydance and retried the
import; actually I imported a dozen transactions instead of the entire
statement's worth, and it was sufficient to show I still have the problem.

The categories already exist in MD, and in two cases exist in MD and are
successfully imported for some transactions in the QIF file, but not for
others.

I did ensure I was usng the MDY date format.

Any other suggestions?

Hi rcook

I don’t know if your issue with QIF file has been fixed but it could be worth clarifying which version of moneydance you are running.

There is a 2017.10 but not a 2019.10. There will be not further bug fixes to 2017.
The current release version of 2019 is 2019.3(1880).

The current preview version of 2019 is 2019.4(1904).

If your bank offers transaction fills in the QFX/OFX format then they have advantages over the QIF format.

Worth a try.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/470718552020-04-19T10:19:26Z2020-04-19T10:19:26ZImporting QIF file

My apologies. Yes, my version is 2017.10.

My bank does not offer downloaded files at all. They will interact with
Quicken directly, but that's all.

I will look into QFX files, which I may be able to create myself, but
since the bug exists for both QIF and CSV files, I'm willing to bet it's
also there for other file formats.

Do you know if this got fixed for 2019.3? I'd be willing to upgrade
versions, I guess.

Hi rcook

I am running 2019.4(1904).

I only import OFX files downloaded from my online bank accounts so can only talk first hand with the experience I have with them

I enter the transaction manually as they happen selecting the correct categories and then at the end of each account period download a transaction file online from my bank. I then follow the .Confirm download process as https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/c...

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/470718552020-04-19T10:55:02Z2020-04-19T10:55:02ZImporting QIF file

Well, have now upgraded to 2019.3, and the test file with which I
demonstrated the problem now imports correctly. Should have tried THIS
before. I'll work on a full-blown statement import later on today.

Thanks for your help.

Hi rcook

Glad to hear you are making progress.

Have Fun

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/470718552020-04-22T04:02:22Z2020-04-22T04:02:22ZImporting QIF file

Well, back to work -- the full-blown statement I got today still leaves some valid categories unrecognized on the import. Checked, still using my updated 2019.3 version.

rcook
